...the next installment of the Smash Bros franchise until he has finished working on Kid Icarus Uprising.
“I’m currently concentrating on one title, Kid Icarus. Until this wraps up, Smash Bros. will not progress. Of course, characters have not been decided at all.”

2.- Square Enix’s Dragon Quest Collection for Wii has overtaken the immensely popularTales of Xillia to take the number one position in the Japanese hardware charts.

The Nintendo 3DS is also sitting pretty atop of the Japanese hardware charts selling a respectable 58,837 units.

  8. X360: 1,295 (1,219)

  10. PSP go: 7 (13)

3.- Patrick Liu, one of the developers behind the Battlefield franchise, has told the Official Nintendo Magazine that the company clearly sees the potential behind the Wii U but have yet to come up with a breakthrough idea to exploit it. Liu also believes that Nintendo will surprise everyone with Wii U as they did with the Wii.

“We definitely see potential in the Wii U. But I wish I had the breakthrough idea for how to exploit the new controller.”
“We’re definitely looking into what kind of new stuff we can do with Wii U. I don’t have that idea yet.
“Nintendo has surprised us so many times before. I was one of the sceptics when the Wii came out and it proved us wrong. I think they’re going to prove a lot of sceptics wrong again.”

4.- Tetsuya Nomura, Japanese video game director and character designer for Square Enix, has told Famitsu that...

The long-awaited Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance is around 60 to 70 percent complete and is due out in Spring 2012.

Tetsuya Nomura, one of the key creative forces behind The World Ends With You, has hinted to Famitsu that they’re developing a possible sequel to the critically acclaimed game. We already know the main character will be appearing in Kingdom Hearts 3D so whether or not we will see more cameo appearances, or a brand new game, is currently unknown.

5.- A bunch of new screenshots from Paper Mario 3DS have been shared online and you can check them out here.

Tomoya Asano of Square Enix has said that the girl pictured above is one of the four main characters inBravely Default: Flying Fairy. It’s also mentioned that, like a “standard RPG,” the battle system will feature random encounters that lead to turn based battles.

The name of the game, Flying Fairy, can be shortened to FF, which is also the short form of Final Fantasy. It’s indicated that this was done on purpose but we’re not sure if the game has an actual connection to Final Fantasy.

Tetris: Axis will feature over twenty modes, with the game’s ‘Fever Mode’ including downloadable SpotPass content.

There are new screenshots and artwork from Brave Company that give us a look at the characters in the game.

6.- Nintendo’s Yusuke Amano has explained to the Official Nintendo Magazine why Nintendo neglected to include an online mode for Star Fox 64 3D on the Nintendo 3DS. Amano cited cost and time constraints as the reasoning behind the lack of online multiplayer support, but he says future iterations of the franchise could include online multiplayer.

“Personally, I play a lot of online FPS games,” began Amano. “This leads me to think that just making multiplayer parts of existing games playable online isn’t enough to create a satisfying experience for users. The popular online games work in lots of things, so they play well online – and if we wanted to satisfy everyone who bought the game, the costs required for including online support would be vast.”
“For this project what we needed to do was use Star Fox to provide users with a game that shows the appeal of Nintendo 3DS as quickly as possible. We put a lot of effort into the graphics, and if we had included online support then we couldn’t have reached this level in the time allowed.”
“We didn’t cut any corners for the multiplayer mode in this game. We did lots of experimentation for the normal wireless local multiplayer and included lots of new features. Working on the multiplayer part was a nice, satisfying challenge, and if I get the chance to work on another Star Fox title, I would definitely consider an online multiplayer mode.”

7.- Zen Studios has announced that Zen Pinball 3D is coming to the eShop. The game will feature four pinball tables (which you can find summaries of after the break), local multiplayer and online leaderboards. The game is set to be released in the fall.

The four pinball tables in the game include Earth Defense, Shaman, Excalibur and Eldorado. Here is a summary of each of these:
  • Earth Defense pits the player against hordes of hostile aliens as they try to take the planet by storm! As the captain of the Earth Defense Special Forces, it is your mission to rally the defenses and protect planet Earth.
  • Players will experience life as a novice sorcerer who must master the trade of summoning spectacular natural phenomena in Shamen.
  • Travel back to the middle ages to the Kingdomof Camelotand become a Knight of the Round Table inExcalibur.
  • Experience the unexplored jungles of Eldorado as you hunt for hidden treasures and uncover the mysteries of ancient civilization.
