Information Update - Nintendo 3DS


1.- Nintendo is set to announce its first-ever operating loss at tomorrows investor conference. Nintendo previously estimated a 45 billion yen deficit for the business year just ended, leading many analysts to question Nintendo’s decision not to bring its immensely popular franchises to the smartphone market.

Shinji Mikami, the creator behind Resident Evil, has revealed his new game which is to be titled Zwei. The game is described as a survival horror title and will be developed for HD consoles. Mikami will serve as the game’s executive director, and is said to be “fully involved” in the project’s development. Hopefully we will see a glimpse of the game at E3.

Timesplitters 4 is apparently very real as a few select developers have seen the much-anticipated game up and running. Although the game is in development there’s always the chance that it may not be released. However, the developer says that if the game is released then we’re likely to see a rerelease of the previous three games in the series.

“Trusted OXM sources have claimed that they’ve seen TimeSplitters 4 running. That’s no guarantee that it’ll be released – at least one version of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 was cancelled without ever being announced – but it’s a promising sign.”

“If we do get a proper sequel, we’re likely to see the old games appear, too.”

2.- Capcom will be unveiling a new project in the next issue of Japanese publication Famitsu. The secret project is teased in the current issue but there’s barely any hints regarding what it might be. Lets hope it’s something for the Nintendo 3DS

Square Enix has confirmed that Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy will be arriving in the UK on July 6th. Those of you that pre-order the game from Amazon will be entitled to a themed stylus that will come with 17 stickers that feature some of the most popular Final Fantasy characters ever.

Nintendo of Europe today announces that it has entered into a distribution agreement with Square Enix Europe, a leading publisher and distributor of video games, for the forthcoming game Heroes of Ruin, a brand new adventure created specifically for the Nintendo 3DS system. Under the terms of the agreement, Nintendo will be responsible for the sales, marketing and distribution of the game throughout EEA, Switzerland, Russia, Turkey and South Africa territories, with Square Enix Europe remaining as publisher. Heroes of Ruin will be released across Europe on 15th June this year.

Nintendo may be releasing a Midnight Purple Nintendo 3DS to coincide with the launch ofMario Tennis Open in North America. The news came from a Game FAQ’s forum memberthat noticed a listing for a Midnight Purple Nintendo 3DS when he was in EB Games.

Fire Emblem: Awakening leads the charge during this weeks Famitsu sales and easily claims the number one spot. You’ll notice that there’s nine Nintendo related games in the entire Japanese top ten. Clearly it’s going to have been a another good week for Nintendo 3DS hardware sales. Here’s the top ten games in Japan:

Rasmus Højengaard, the Swedish director of creative development at Crytek, thinks it would be “awesome” if Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony restricted access to pre-owned games. There were rumours that both Microsoft and Sony were looking into blocking pre-owned games on their next generation systems, but Nintendo hasn’t announced anything.

“It’s weird that [second-hand sales] are still allowed because it doesn’t work like that in any other software industries, so it would be great if they could somehow fix that issue as well.”

3.- Nintendo 3DS owners will be able to stay connected even when they are on the go through Nintendo Zone, launching today across Europe. By using one of the approximately 25,000 Hotspot access points across Europe you will be able to access free and exciting content via your Nintendo 3DS system. Nintendo Zone is a free location based, interactive service that allows you to access exciting content including upcoming trailers of games in 2D and 3D, product information, 2D and 3D screenshots, Nintendo 3DS game demos and free video clips.

The Star Trek game based upon the new film could be coming to Wii U, with the game set to be released on “all major home consoles” sometime during early 2013. Brian Miller, senior vice president and producer at Paramount Pictures has told IGN that the company is looking to bring the game to all “platforms that make sense”.

“We are exploring right now all of our options to get on the platforms that make sense. It’s early. Good thing we have a lot of time to figure that out, and over the next few months we’ll be able to announce a few more things.”

The new firmware update for the 3DS was released a few hours ago. You can check after the break for videos.Pokemon Black & White 2 may come out on October 2nd if a GameStop listing is to be believed. A GameStop employee snapped the date and posted the image to Reddit. Nintendo of America and Nintendo Europe have both confirmed that Pokemon Black & White 2 will be arriving sometime during the Fall.
