Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Eurogamer is reporting that EA is hard at work developing the next iteration of the FIFA franchise for Wii U. The game is being developed by a different team from the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC version. EA confirmed earlier today that FIFA 13 is in development for Wii and Nintendo 3DS.

More After the Break...

Square Enix has provided the world with a better look at the multiplayer mode in their Nintendo 3DS exclusive Heroes of Ruin. The game is being developed by N-Space who were responsible for the handheld iterations of the Call of Duty franchise. Heroes of Ruin is coming to Europe on June 15th and North America, June 26th.
Square Enix has unleashed a gargantuan trailer for the forthcoming Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance which is exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS. The trailer is nine minutes long and shows off the game’s English voice cast. Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance is due for release in Europe on the 20th July and July 31st in North America.

Two new downloadable Pokémon titles are coming soon to the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS. Pokémon Dream Radar and Pokédex 3D Pro will both release in fall 2012, giving players new ways to catch and learn about their favorite Pokémon, while expanding the overall experience for those that choose to play the upcoming Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 games on the Nintendo 3DS.
Pokémon Dream Radar lets players use several different features of the Nintendo 3DS system, including the Nintendo 3DS camera, motion control and augmented-reality technology, to catch Pokémon by moving the Nintendo 3DS to discover hidden Pokémon. Players can catch the Pokémon by moving the Nintendo 3DS to aim and shoot beams at them. Caught Pokémon from Pokémon Dream Radar can be transferred into Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2, helping players build their roster of Pokémon. Pokémon Dream Radar also includes some hard-to-get Pokémon, giving players even more incentive to catch them for their game. Pokémon Dream Radar will be available exclusively for purchase via download from the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS.
Pokédex 3D Pro is a fully enhanced and upgraded version of the original Pokédex 3D application. It includes detailed information about the more than 600 Pokémon featured in the history of the Pokémon video game series. Pokédex 3D Pro also includes in-depth sorting, comparison and ranking tools, as well as comprehensive details on what abilities each Pokémon can learn and how it evolves. Additionally, the application includes extensive augmented-reality capabilities, including the ability to take photos of Pokémon in the real world. With Pokédex 3D Pro, all known Pokémon are unlocked from the start, allowing players to access a wealth of information that will be useful as they play through Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2. Pokédex 3D Pro will be available exclusively for purchase via download from the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS.

2.- Nintendo of Europe today announces that it has made an update available for Mario Kart 7, which will eliminate the ability to exploit shortcuts when playing Online Multiplayer on the courses “Wuhu Island Loop,” “Wuhu Mountain Loop,” and “GBA Bowser Castle 1″

The Mario Kart 7 Update data are available for free via Nintendo eShop from today, after performing the latest system update to make sure that your Nintendo 3DS system is up to date.

Mario Kart fans who have not downloaded these Update data will no longer be able to play Online Multiplayer; but don’t worry if you are unable to connect to the Internet and download the update immediately, as you will still be able to take part in Local Multiplayer and Single Player races without the update.

The latest edition of Japanese publication Famitsu says that the next entry in the well-received Tales Of franchise will be a “mothership” title. This means that the new game, which is due to be revealed in 19 days, will be in the same class as games like Xillia, Vesperia and Graces. It will definitely not be a remake of the previous games. The new Tales Of game will be announced on June 2nd at the Tales of Festival event.

In today’s “sort of interesting, but not that important” category comes the confirmation that the GPU for the Wii U begun its development back in June 2009. Or at least, it was “in some sort of development state”. But that does seem to just follow the regular schedule of Nintendo developing new hardware, so it’s not that surprising.

A beta tester who has supposedly started working with Crytek has revealed that the company is not working on a game for the Wii U. But, “they created a Crysis 3 level just to fully understand the console capabilities”, and the results are promising. The game managed to run at thirty frames per second with these settings:
DirectX 9
Native 720p resolution
FXAA filter (it is impossible to use txaa)
High-quality texture (no pop up as in the Ps3/x360 game version due to the higher RAM amount)
Not fully implemented water shaders
“Great” particles effects (ambient occlusion on par with PC version)
Lighting effect on par with PC version (ultra setting)

One of the limitations is that the developers weren’t able to turn off the display on the tablet controller though, so the staff thinks if that was possible, they would be able to run the game at a native 1080p resolution.

Nintendo has sent out a firmware update for the 3DS that gives you the ability to update your 3DS without having to input your parental control pin. Not all that exciting, but it’s always a good idea to keep your 3DS firmware up to date, so go get it.
