1.- Nintendo of America has announced that the superb Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 have sold over one million units each in the United States.
More After the Break...
Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 system not only became the fastest-selling titles in the history of their respective franchises when they launched, but they are now also the first Nintendo 3DS titles to sell 1 million units each in the United States.
Nintendo of America has announced via a press release that the Nintendo 3DS has sold more units in its first nine months that the Wii did. Nintendo of America also revealed that the system has finally crossed the four million sold mark which I reported on a few weeks back for Japan. Nintendo are obviously ecstatic that they’ve achieved the figure, and rightly so.
“One of the strongest software lineups in our history helped Nintendo have a great holiday season and to close 2011 with a full head of steam,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Not only have the new Mario and Zelda titles already broken records, but with strong reviews and satisfied customers sharing their positive experiences, all three are also shaping up to be the latest long-tail titles from Nintendo. Couple that with a massive first- and third party lineup in the first part of the year and the prospects for 2012 are extremely promising.”
2.- The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Anouma has revealed in the latest edition of Game Informer that the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword art style and the storyline will most likely be a one-off and that we will be seeing something completely different for Zelda Wii U.
“With Wind Waker, the graphics were suited to handheld gaming. Also the game ended with Link embarking on a journey, so it left open the possibility of what comes after the game. With Skyward Sword, positioning it as the first Zelda game means everything else connects to it and comes after it. It becomes a little bit difficult to do something else within that world and certainly much more difficult to do something that comes before it.”
3.- Nintendo recently issued press release states that there’s new instalments of Mario Party, Pokémon and Kid Icarus franchises on the horizon. I wonder if the Pokemon game is Nobunaga Ambition X Pokemon for the Nintendo DS, or a brand new 3DS adventure?
With a strong lineup of software on the horizon, including new installments in the Mario Party™, Pokémon™ and Kid Icarus™franchises, as well as third-party games such as Resident Evil® Revelations from Capcom and METAL GEAR SOLID® 3D Snake Eater from Konami for Nintendo 3DS, that momentum should continue into the first quarter of 2012 and beyond.
Update: It seems as though it’s Pokepark 2: Wonders Beyond for Wii which is due in February. Thanks to everyone in the comments for letting me know!

5.- With news publications already declaring the Playstation Vita dead in the water, famed industry analyst Michael Pachter believes that there’s absolutely no chance of the PlayStation Vita getting a price cut in either Japan or the West.
“There’s no chance for a price cut. The price points for software are what I expected, and highlight the disparity between casual smartphone games and premium console-quality handheld games.”
“I think PS Vita is a hardcore product, and it may have difficulty finding a mainstream audience, especially as smartphones penetrate the mainstream.”
