Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has reiterated that gorgeous HD visuals aren’t enough to entice today’s consumers and that the main selling point for Wii U will be the fact that you’ll be using two screens for gaming. Reggie firmly believes that the combination of a big first screen coupled with a second smaller screen will change the gaming industry as we currently know it.

More After the Break...
“The big innovation with the Wii U is the controller and the ability to have an interactive experience that leverages all of your traditional input buttons as well as a screen built right into the controller. Yes, the system is HD capable; it’ll generate the most gorgeous pictures. But for us that’s not enough.”
“We need to continue pushing the overall experience forward. We need to bring new types of entertainment. New types of gaming and the combination of a big first screen — your home TV — coupled with a second screen in your hands, in our view, is going to bring gaming to a whole new experience and to continue driving the industry.”

The LA Times managed to catch up with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime at this years CES to speak to him about the decline in Wii sales. Reggie told the publication that said he didn’t see declining Wii sales as a negative but rather he saw them as a positive leading into the release of the Wii U later this year.
“The Wii is now approaching 40 million homes here in the United States, so from a penetration standpoint we’re beginning to top out in terms of the total number of systems sold, and that’s why it makes so much sense to prepare for the launch of the Wii U.”

2.- Square Enix has uploaded some new gameplay footage of Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance for the Nintendo 3DS. Kingdom Hearts 3D is currently scheduled to be released in Japan sometime during March with a North American and European release confirmedfor later this year by Square Enix.

The press event will give the Pokemon Company a chance to show off the eagerly anticipated game and will feature an introduction to the game, developer interviews, special guests and more. There are lots of screenshots from Pac-Man Party 3D that show off various mini-games, boss battles and the ‘Classic Mode’ featuring Pac-Man, Galaga, and Dig Dug.

Game Informer has reviewed both Resident Evil: Revelations and Shinobi for the 3DS in their latest issue. The former received a score of 9/10 while the latter scored a 6.5/10. Have these scores affected your purchasing decisions at all?
