Information Update - Nintendo 3DS


1.- In just Australia, EB Games down under is offering the mightiest preorder bonus for Ocarina of Time 3D.

Anyone who preorders the game from them at a price of $68 (which sounds expensive to foreigners, but is not an irregular price down in Australia) will receive an ocarina that is branded with the tri-force and two song sheets to learn how to play Zelda’s Lullably and another, unnamed tune.

2.- An image of the upcoming issue of Nintendo Power has been leaked onto the internet and it has brought good news along with it. According to the cover image, Sonic Generations is indeed coming to the 3DS. 

This seems to coincide with previous reports from various sources which had already hinted at the game on the 3DS, but its still nice to have official confirmation.


3.- We’ve known that a Cooking Mama game was on its way, but now Majesco Entertainment has confirmed that Cooking Mama 4: Kitchen Magic will be arriving on the 3DS this fall. 

There are “more than 200 unique touch screen mini-games” and also support for the motion controls that allow you to “crack eggs, flip pans, balance plates and much more” by simply moving your 3DS.


4.- Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D arrives in North America on June 28th and Capcom has begun offering a limited edition case for your Nintendo 3DS if you preorder via their online store. 

Each case is individually numbered with only 1000 of them available. If it’s something you want it’s best not to wait too long.

5.- You can read a very interesting and very true Mario Kart Retrospective on IGN.com.

6.- British news publication The Guardian recently received the opportunity to sit down with Shigeru Miyamoto and question him about all things Nintendo 3DS.  The best news from the interview is that Super Mario 3D is still on track for this year, but it seems as though Mario Kart 3D has slipped to a 2012 release. We will find out more about these titles at E3 in a couple of weeks. Anyway, here’s a number of choice extracts from the surprisingly in-depth interview for your reading pleasure.

“Now, we are focusing more on games for the 3DS – we want to release lots of games for it this year.”

“The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be released in June, Starfox this summer and Super Mario 3D, which is completely original, is coming this year. I am involved with these titles andMario Kart.” Which, alas, implies that Mario Kart for the 3DS won’t be ready until 2012.

“Starfox uses the gyro-sensor and the joystick; the combination is the key to its gameplay. Because it’s 3D, you have the depth in the screen, so you can aim perfectly.”

“Super Mario 3D will be a combination of Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64, although that doesn’t exactly convey what it is like – if you play it at E3 you will see what I mean.

“For example, when floors are floating in space, in 2D, it’s difficult to judge distances, but in 3D, it is easy to.”

“If I tell you everything, I won’t be able to talk about anything at E3. But the power-ups you mention are what you think you are. And you probably know what is going to happen using those characters already.”

“[Zelda: Ocarina of Time] ran at 20fps on the Nintendo64, but on the 3DS, it runs at 30fps, so there is extra smoothness of movement. The graphics, too, have been strengthened: you can feel the immersiveness of its world in 3D. Plus, the touchscreen lets you place items wherever you want them to be.

“In the original, it was really difficult, say, to change into your boots in the water dungeon, but now it’s easy. And in the original, it could be confusing when, say, using the bow, whether you were supposed to push the stick up or down to aim it – but now we have the gyro-sensor on the 3DS, it’s easy.”

Nintendo 3DS eShop: “Even if you download games via eShop, we will create games that are meaningful and valuable for the 3DS. We would like to create download games that are meaningful and always there with you.

“It’s not that I’m dictating methods to the third parties: they need to be open to the eShop as well, but I’m speaking for Nintendo.”

“The main software, we would create for packaged games. But if there are any meaningful ideas for download – if it was something that worked when it was always there [on the 3DS], then maybe. I think, for me, a download game would be something anyone could play and that is comfortable to play. So it’s not really about forcing a game into the hardware.”

“I’m not really involved with Spot Pass – more with Street Pass. But there will be several software updates. As soon as the server is ready, it will be done. For Spot Pass, without you knowing, things like films will be coming to you.” What other key things will the update bring? “The browser and the eShop.”

2.- Una imagen confirma Sonic Generations para la 3DS, en Nintendo Power. 

Veremos si es verdad o no, porque el texto ahí escrito se puede interpretar de distintas maneras.

“Starfox utiliza el gyro-sensor y el joystick, lo que quiere decir que se necesita coordinación para el mejor juego. Como es en 3D, la percepción que tienes al disparar es perfecta, y tienes toda la precisión.”

“Super Mario 3D es como una combinación entre Super Mario 64 y Super Mario Galaxy, aunque eso no es del todo como es. Tendréis que jugarlo en E3 para verlo.

“Por ejemplo, cuando hay bloques flotando en el espacio en 2D, es muy dificil verlo, pero en 3D es muy fácil.”

“Si te lo digo todo me voy a quedar sin cosas que decir en E3, por lo que te digo que probablemente los power-ups tengan el efecto que piensas y todo eso.”

“[Zelda: Ocarina of Time] corría en 20 FPS en la N64, en la 3DS corre a 30 FPS, por lo que hay extra suavidad en el movimiento. Los gráficos también son muchísimo mejores, sobre todo con el 3D.

“En el original, era verdaderamente difícil ir cambiando las botas, por ejemplo en el Templo del Agua, o mirar todo el rato cambiando la cámara. En la 3DS, gracias a la pantalla táctil, ofrece un menú mucho mejor y el gyro-sensor para la cámara.”

Nintendo 3DS eShop: “Aunque descargues juegos por el eShop, seguiremos fabricando juegos invaluables para 3DS. Nos gustaría crear juegos descargables con sentido y que estuvieran contigo.

“No es que esté dictando reglas para las demás compañías, pero estoy hablando por Nintendo.”

“No estoy realmente involucrado con SoptPass. Más con StreetPass. Digo que cuando los servidores estén listos, todo será mandado.” ¿Qué otros elementos importantes llevará la update? "El Browser y la eShop”.
