1.- Nintendo’s forthcoming Wii U will be 50% more powerful than Sony’s PlayStation 3 console according to Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia. Bhatia has spoken to a number of key third party developers who are currently producing games for the console. All the developers questioned stated that the Wii U has 50% more processing power compared to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.
More after the Break...
“Some of the developers we spoke to indicated to us that the console will have 50% more processing power compared to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.”- Arvind Bhatia, Sterne Agee analyst
2.- Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has told the New York Times that the Wii U will have “the best graphic capability”, putting to rest the numerous discussions online about whether the console will be of a similar graphical capability to Sony’s PlayStation 3 or Microsoft’s Xbox 360.
The specifics of how we get there — we still have a number of months to share more and to show more. The reason we showed that visual demonstration with the bird in the garden is just to reinforce that the visual horsepower of this machine is there.VB: Have you made any comments about whether the performance will be better than the PS3 or the Xbox 360?RF-A: Again, the point is not about a comparison versus our competitors. What we’ve said is it will be 1080p. Check the box on the best graphics capability. It will have a robust online environment. Check the box. That will not be a disincentive for purchase.
3.- Controversial industry analyst Michael Pachter has proclaimed that the Wii U not only has the dumbest console name ever, but that the console is two years too late to market. We all know Pachter isn’t one to mince his words, but this scathing attack at Nintendo is relatively unfounded. Do you agree with Pachters supposed words of wisdom?
“The most impactful ‘reveal’ at the show was the Wii U, which, in our opinion, is arriving two years too late. Depending on pricing, the system will be either a phenomenal success or a phenomenal failure, as competitive bundles for Xbox 360 with Kinect and PS3 with Move are likely to be priced below $300 by the time the Wii U launches.”“Sony’s presentation was solid, and the pricing on PlayStation Vita (the second-dumbest name for a device after Wii U) was quite a surprise.”- Michael Pachter
4.- Michel Ancel, the creator behind Rayman and Beyond Good and Evil, has told Videogamer that he’s not entirely convinced that the Wii U is actually a next generation console in terms of sheer technical prowess. However, Ancel did confess that the Wii U controller is what he deems to be a true next generation device.
Asked if the Wii U is a next-generation machine, Ancel replied: “Not really. I think Wii U is next-gen in terms of interface.”“I think people are going to copy it, because you’ve got this mix between tablet, touch screen and big screen – big screen and little screen – there are a lot of possibilities.”Pressed on this issue – whether he expected Microsoft or Sony to cook up something similar – Ancel replied: “I don’t know if Sony will do it, or Microsoft – but yes, I think it’s a possibility. But I think the main thing is to have this – offering new ways to play is very interesting.”- Michael Ancel, Ubisoft
5.- Nintendo UK product manager Rob Lowe has stated that the Wii U will offer a significantly improved online experience to that of its predecessor, the Nintendo Wii.
Speaking to online gaming publication Eurogamer Lowe revealed that strong online functionality is much more important now than it was back in 2006 when the Wii launched.
6.- Expecting the look of the Wii U’s console and controller to change dramatically between now and the release date? It’s time to kill that expectation. Reggie Fils-Aime has said that:
In terms of the form factor of the console, it is quite near final. Similarly the form factor of the controller is quite near final.
I’m sure we’ll see a few slight differences by the time the hardware is released, but if you do not like the design, time to get used to it.

Information Update - Nintendo Wii U
