1.- Nintendo of America president has told online gaming publication Kotaku that Nintendo didn’t release the Nintendo 3DS to market before it was ready. Many have speculated that the system was rushed to launch to combat Nintendo’s lower-than-expected fiscal earnings, hence why the system didn’t launch with a killer app such as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and why the Nintendo 3DS eShop wasn’t available at launch.
More After the Break...
“We’re going to be launching Ocarina. We’re going to follow with a steady drumbeat of Star Fox and Kid Icarus and two Mario titles and the Luigi title. I think we’ve got that issue not only identified but addressed.”
2.- It was announced a while back that Netflix streaming was coming to the Nintendo 3DS. Lots of people figured the recent update would include the app, but unfortunately, that was obviously not the case. The feature is still on its way though, as explained by Reggie Fils-Aime:
We’ve got the 3D movie service still on track for the summer. We’ve got Netflix still on track for the summer. So I think we’re well underway to having that addressed as well.
He also admits that “We thought there would have been a tighter gap between launch and the first network update.”
3.- Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Kid Icarus: Uprising has confirmed that his team has not implemented online play in the game yet. He even admits that “it’s not totally out of the realm of possibility that we might end up not being able to implement the Wi-Fi online mode.”
Sakurai says the team is “moving forward in development with the understanding and intention of making that a feature.”
4.- Japanese folk will soon receive free television service that allows owners of the handheld to watch certain television shows on the Nintendo 3DS in 3D. But it seems that people who have imported a Japanese 3DS will not be able to view that content as Nintendo in Japan has decided to region lock the service.
This means that only people who are in Japan will be able to view the content.
5.- Shigeru Miyamoto has confessed to Gamespot that he wishes to return the StarFox franchise back to its roots. Miyamoto told the gaming publication that he feels the StarFox franchise managed to lose its way with games such as Rare’s Gamecube title StarFox Adventures.
Now, Shigeru Miyamoto wants StarFox returning back to its Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 roots.
6.- According to this source, we’ll have to wait until 2012 to get our hands on Animal Crossing 3DS, Kid Icarus: Uprising and Paper Mario 3DS. Or, at least, in Europe.
Given that this year is already packed with first-party titles, it wouldn’t be too surprising for Animal Crossing or Paper Mario to come out next year.
7.- Games that tie-in with movies are rarely good. But Jay Ward of Pixar has said that Cars 2: The Video Game, based on the soon-to-be-released Cars 2 “needs to have the same level of quality and care and concern that we put into the movie.”
