Information Update - Nintendo Wii U


1.- There aren't really any Wii U news today, but since it is something realted to Nintendo, and it is very strange and funny, I thought I'd post this here. It has to do with the Nintendo shareholders meeting. I'm sure Nintendo'll never forget this.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata had an intriguing and rather curious exchange of words with one of the investors at Nintendo’s annual shareholders meeting. It seems as though one of the investors at the event was rather upset with Nintendo over falling share prices and Nintendo’s efforts during the recent Japanese earthquake and tsunami. 

Thankfully Iwata, being Nintendo’s president, was more than capable of providing an adequate response, showing grace under fire on something that shouldn't be allowed in such meetings...

With microphone in hand, the unnamed shareholder began with the following:

I’m concerned about the falling stock price. I own stock, but I don’t own a single Nintendo product. I believe games are a waste of time. By the way, the reason I own Nintendo stock is because the name is nice, it’s in Kyoto and it was listed in the year of my birth.

Iwata, despite the unexpected comment, was able to respond with this:

There are people in this world who don’t feel that games are a waste of time, so Nintendo continues to exist. We’d like to eliminate the thinking that playing games by yourself is negative, or when there’s a crime you immediately tie it into games. We’d like to raise the social importance of games. We’re working to expand the gaming population, yourself included.

The shareholder then followed up with a question regarding Nintendo’s supposed lack of doing anything to help the victims of the recent Japan earthquake and tsunami:

During the Tohoku earthquake disaster, I believe people in the evacuation centers were lacking in exercise. Why didn’t you bring Wii Fit to them? Why didn’t you show off to the media that you’re doing more for the victims?

This prompted the CEO to state that Nintendo has in fact provided much-needed items to areas affected in the disaster. He also stated that they provided to evacuation shelters, and they simply didn’t feel it necessary to get the media involved. In fact, Nintendo had a policy in place specifically aimed at not getting the media involved.

2.- Viz Media has announced that it’s bringing Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva to North America. The anime movie takes place between the events of Professor Layton and the Last Specter and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box. 

The film has been a runaway success in Japan and Level 5 has already commissioned a sequel. I'll go see it if it comes out in Spain! Or next year, when I go study in the US!

Noticias Nuevas - Nintendo Wii U

1.- No hay verdaderamente ninguna noticia nueva de la consola en sí, pero ha ocurrido hoy una cosa en el meeting de accionistas de Nintendo, muy curiosa.

El Presidente de Nintendo ha tenido un intercambio de palabras muy curioso con un accionista que no parecía muy contento con la reciente caída de Nintendo en el mercado, debida al terremoto y posterior tsunami de Japón. 

Menos mal que Iwata consiguió mantener la situación bien y sin ningún problema, poniendo al mal tiempo, buena cara, pero hay algunas cosas que no se tendrían que poder decir. Ese "subnormal" con sus declaraciones, si Iwata no le hubiera controlada, podría haber hecho más daño a sus acciones.

Con el micrófono en la mano, el desconocido comenzó:

Estoy preocupado por el descenso de los precios del stock. Tengo stock, pero no poseo ningún producto de Nintendo. Creo que los juegos son una pérdida de tiempo. Además, la razón por la que poseo stock de Nintendo es porque el nombre me gusta, está en Kyoto, y comenzó en bolsa el día de mi nacimiento.

Iwata, tras el inesperado comentario, siguió con:

Hay gente que todavía no piensa que los juegos sean una pérdida de tiempo y por eso, Nintendo sigue existiendo. Nos gustaría eliminar el tipo de pensamiento de la gente que cree que jugar solo es malo, o que inmediatamente vincula crímenes a los videojuegos. Nos gustaría aumentar la importancia social de los juegos. Estamos trabajando para incrementar la popularidad de los juegos entre la gente, contigo incluído.

El accionista continuó plantando en cara a Nintendo el no haber hecho supuestamente nada por ayudar tras el terremoto y tsunami de Japón:

Durante el desastre del terremoto en Tohoku, creo que la gente en los centros de evacuación necesitaban ejercicio. ¿Por qué no les disteis Wii Fit? ¿Por qué no mostráis que estáis haciendo algo por las víctimas?

Ésto hizo al CEO decir que Nintendo ha, de facto, mandado muchísimos objetos de necesidad a las zonas agraviadas por el terremoto. Dijo también que han mandado ayudas a centros de evacuación, pero que no vieron necesaria la llamada a la prensa. De hecho, Nintendo hasta tiene una "ley" en la que dice que no se involucre a la prensa.

2.- Viz Mediaha anunciado que trae Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva a North America. La película de animación está entre los eventos de Professor Layton and the Last Specter y Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box. 

El film ya ha tenido muchísimo éxito en Japón y a ver si lo tiene también en los USA. ¡La iré a ver si sale en España, o el año que viene, cuando vaya a estudiar a EEUU!
