There is fifteen minutes of footage from Mario Kart 7.
2.- There's plenty of praise for the changes made to Zelda in Skyward Sword and, in the recent issue of Nintendo Power, Eiji Aonuma has said that "confronting those challenges resulted in something that has a great deal of value." He also talked of Zelda on the Wii U, sharing that:
With that in mind, please expect big things from the Zelda series to come! What do you think some of those "big things" could be?
When it comes to Wii U, we'll obviously want to add new elements that take advantage of the capabilities of the platform. I think using that as a lens through which we once again challenge the conventions of Zelda is more important than just making another Zelda game.
With that in mind, please expect big things from the Zelda series to come! What do you think some of those "big things" could be?
Reggie Fils-Aime, the President of Nintendo of America has shared that the company believes "that Wii and Wii U will coexist for some time", and that as they:
...drive the install base of Wii, we’re really setting people up to take their gaming library and be able to transfer it over to Wii U.
And I find this interesting simply because it feels like the type of thing that will confuse the casual gamers. There may be a lot more to the Wii U than the Wii, but at first glance it can appear to be a fairly small upgrade.
We've heard a lot about the Wii U being easier to develop for than Nintendo's previous consoles. In regards to this, Yoshinori Kitase of Square Enix said the following:
With the Wii U, it’s great that there’s a high definition console from Nintendo on the market, which was previously lacking. As far as the specs are concerned, theWii U seems like something we could develop easily for as well. Hopefully that becomes part of our multiplatform lineup, but we can’t be certain as of now.
Let's hope they're certain soon enough though. There are games to be made!
3.- Nintendo made mistakes with pricing the 3DS. Reggie Fils-Aime, the President of Nintendo of America has been clear that they "don't want to go through that when we launch Wii U." At the same time though, the Wii and Wii U are meant to co-exist for a while, so the price can't be too close otherwise the Wii will die out too soon.
There'll be plenty of chances for pricing predictions in the future but, based on what we know, how much do you think it'll cost?
But in that same way, if the PS4 or the Xbox 720 launch earlier than expected, then that just makes everything that bit much more trickier.
One thing I saw at the [E3] press conference that I thought would be cool is using the controller as a kind of AR thing. Because we've got a mechanism in the game where you throw stuff. In the first Darksiders game, you'd have to pick something up and throw it at a target.
It's always a little difficult to use a joystick to aim precisely and you could have it so as you picked up the [Wii U] controller it would sense when it was held up in front of you and it would turn into a display showing you what was on the screen, and you'd move the target with the controller.
And while Darksiders 2 may be a port, it is nice to see ongoing thought in regards to how it can be different from the versions on the other consoles. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be one of the better launch titles
5.- Gaijin Games, the folks behind the BIT.TRIP series of games have strongly hinted that they have a dev kit for the Wii U. Here's what they said via their Twitter account:
I wonder what this mysterious device on my desk is... Let's see... It has a giant touchscreen, a camera, microphone... It's white... Hm...When asked if it was the iPad, they said that was not the case. It pretty much just leaves the WiiU. Now the question becomes though, what are they actually working on?
