Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Nintendo has officially released the new Nintendo 3DS system update which allows you to record ten minutes of 3D video.
More After the Break...

To get the latest firmware update you’ll need to go to system settings and then select system update and the update will start to download.

Here’s a list of the features that should be included in the update:

  • 1. 3D Video, and 3D Stop Motion animation videos.
  • 2. QR code functionality will be improved
  • 3. Transfer game files between Nintendo 3DS systems
  • 4. New puzzles and extra Find Mii Dungeon
  • 5. eShop will be expanded as well, You’ll soon have access to game demos (for both downloadable games and retail games)
  • 6. You’ll be able to download software while your system is in Sleep Mode
  • 7. The eShop will also support Download Codes (which will be used primarily for special promotions) and will enable users to save payment information to their system if they so so desire
  • 8. The update will add a new application to your system’s Home Menu: ”Nintendo Zone” active when you’re at a Nintendo 3DS hotspot location. Provides free access to exclusive content, streaming 3D videos (such as gametrailers, tv ads) trivia games, and retail promotions
Nintendo UK has revealed that the number of Mii characters for both Wii and the Nintendo 3DS in Europe now exceeds 73.2million – more than the populations of France, the United Kingdom and Italy or more than Spain and The Netherlands combined.

The global Mii population is a staggering 213.8 million meaning that if all the Mii characters were to form a country it would have the fifth largest population in the world and would sit above Brazil, Nigeria and Pakistan. The European Mii population is so large that if it was a country of its own it would be the second largest country in Europe after Germany.

Europe’s Mii population is split almost equally between the genders – 37.2 million male versus 36.1 million female characters. Indeed, in several instances, females are the predominant Mii gender – the UK, Spain and the Netherlands have a greater number of female than male Mii characters, at 51%, 52% and 51% females respectively.

With last nights Nintendo 3DS firmware update came the option to download playable demos but unfortunately it’s only Japan that’s received any. Japanese consumers are now able to download the following titles from the Nintendo 3DS eShop:
  • Monster Hunter 3 G
  • Dead Or Alive: Dimensions
  • Cooking Mama 4: Kitchen Magic
  • Puyo Puyo
  • Crayon Shin Chan
  • New Love Plus

We should be getting demos fairly soon over here in the West but Nintendo has yet to reveal precisely what we’re getting. Clearly a Resident Evil: Revelations demo wouldn’t go amiss. Which demos would you like to see?

2.- Nintendo of Japan has revealed that Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 is set to be released in the Japan eShop on December 14 for 400 yen. Sadly there’s still no word on a Western release for the game though it will be coming eventually as it was previously rated by the Australian Classifications Board in October.

Carrefour, a large French retail outlet has priced the Wii U at €450. Nintendo themselves have yet to confirm pricing for the console, but all indications point towards the fact that it won’t be excessively cheap. The Wii U is expected to launch sometime after April 2012.

US retail emporium Target is now selling the Nintendo 3DS for a mere $169 for three days only. If you do decide to purchase either the Metallic Red, Aqua Blue or Cosmo Black version you can also claim a free $50 gift card. Now you have no reason not to purchase a Nintendo 3DS.

US store Best Buy has the Nintendogs + Cats games for the Nintendo 3DS on sale for a super-cheap $7.99 each. For that price I’d highly recommend either picking up a copy for yourself or giving one to someone you know who has a Nintendo 3DS as a present.

Time has listed The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword as the third best video game of 2011. Sadly Skyward Sword is the only Nintendo video game on the list with the fantasticSuper Mario 3D Land conspicuously absent. What do you think to their choices?
  • 10. Battlefield 3
  • 9. Sword & Sworcery
  • 8. Dark Souls
  • 7. Skyrim
  • 6. Bastion
  • 5. Batman: Arkham City
  • 4. Uncharted 3
  • 3. Skyward Sword
  • 2. Portal 2
  • 1. Minecraft
3.- CRUSH3D was scheduled to be released on January 13th in Europe, but now it seems the game won’t belaunching until February 17th. And while that is a shame, there are new screenshots to help pass the time until then. They’re after the break.

There are new screenshots from Monster Hunter Tri G that show off various parts in the game including a new monster subspecies.

With the release of the firmware upgrade, folks who own a Japanese 3DS are now able to download a demo for Monster Hunter Tri G via the eShop. There’s also a demo for Dead or Alive: Dimensions and a few other games, according to reports. I will capture footage of these demos soon.
