Information Update - Nintendo 3DS
1.- Epic Games vice president Mark Rein is confident that the Wii U will be a huge hit with consumers when it launches sometime later this year. Speaking to Eurogamer Rein stated that he believes parents are now ready to upgrade their kids existing Wii systems.

More After the Break...
“I like the Wii U. I think E3 will be a big eye-opener for people.”
“I played Batman: Arkham City on the Wii U and they are doing some really cool stuff with the controller.
“Do you remember the Zelda demo they had on it? Would you not buy a Wii U just to play that? Of course you would. That’s what Nintendo is all about. Their hardware is the software delivery service for their great content. That Zelda demo was gorgeous and we can do even more than that with Unreal Engine 3. I think it will do great.”
“It’s a great brand that a lot of parents really trust and they’re probably ready to buy their kids an HD Wii that does that much more than just being an HD Wii.
“I’d love it if they’d done it last year, but I’m excited for them to do it this year. I’d be shocked if it doesn’t do well.
“Did you play that Battle Mii game? Two players would play with a Wii Remote and Nunchuk and one would play with the Wii U controller?
“I would buy a Wii U to play that game in a heartbeat. And I hope people make those kind of games with our technology. I think we’ve yet to really see what the Wii U can do and I think at E3 this year they’re going to shock us.”

Italian online gaming store MultiPlayer is advertising a brand new Kirby game for sale for the Nintendo 3DS. The game is simply titled Kirby and hasn’t been formally announced by Nintendo. Sadly there’s no other details regarding the game, but the online store does feature the funky box-art which can be seen above.

Legendary designer, John Romero, has announced via Twitter that he’s looking at creating a brand new ‘old school’ first person shooter. Romero revealed the news when he was fielding questions from fans on Twitter. Maybe we will hear more about this intriguing title, and the platforms it’s being developed for, at this year E3 event in June?

2.- Jimmy Wales’ for profit company Wikia is now more popular than both IGN and GameSpot, according to recently released Comscore data. There are now over 300,000 wikis generating around 50 million unique visitors a month. 600 new sites are created each day on Wikia. The site also managed to poach the heads of IGN’s gaming and movie sites, Hilary Goldstein and Eric Moro.

The director behind Super Mario Galaxy 2, Koichi Hayashida, believes it would be difficult to make another game in the amazing Super Mario Galaxy series using left over ideas from the previous games. This suggests that the next Mario game for Wii U will most likely be an original concept. Hopefully we should see it in action at this years E3 event in June.
“When we worked on Galaxy 1 we came up with a mountain of ideas. Of course, the ideas that made it in to the final product were the ones at the very top. Those ideas that were most compelling or could be implemented most easily and effectively. The other ideas were a little bit rougher. Ideas we weren’t positive that’d be as effective, or might have been much more difficult to include.”
“When you think about trying to make a game like Galaxy 2 from that large group of ideas that we had already decided were on the rough side, that becomes a very difficult project. The only way that we got through the development of Mario Galaxy 2 was by coming up with entirely new ideas. I think of that as a very challenging project when I look back on it.”
“From that perspective, to say we’d make another game using the ideas left over from Galaxy 2, it’s very difficult for me to imagine. I feel like we really did research the field very well for possible ideas and we used everything that was reasonably easy to implement.”

Crytek, the development studio behind the gorgeous Crysis franchise, has announced that it plans to reveal a ‘absolutely fantastic’ new project next month. The developer wouldn’t provide any hints, but there’s got to be a chance it’s TimeSplitters 4, which is rumoured to be in development for Wii U.

“The other project looks absolutely fantastic – I mean, genuinely the best of that kind of project we’ve ever done.”

“It looks spectacular, the team are doing really, really well and it’s just really nice to see the team really enthusiastic about what they’re doing. They’re really happy.”

3.- The forthcoming Pokemon Black & White 2 for the Nintendo DSi will have a brand new storyline, and will come will all new features according to the latest edition of Japanese publication CoroCoro. Sadly there’s very little details regarding the game, but you’ll be pleased to know that it’s definitely coming to North America and Europe this year.

Nintendo UK and Europe has announced the games that Nintendo 3DS and Wii owners can enjoy on the Virtual Console this week. There’s Metroid for the NES, Strider which launched on the Sega Megadrive, and 1st Class Poker & BlackJack and Battle of the Elements for DSiWare

Prepare yourself for the return of the original NES classic Metroid, re-released on the Nintendo eShop this week, and see how the whole saga began! As the legendary bounty hunter Samus Aran, you will once again be able to take on the Space Pirates and their leader Mother Brain to bring peace to the galaxy. The original Metroid adventure introduced the unique blend of exploration and high-octane action that has characterised the series ever since.

Wii owners will also be able to journey into the future this week as another classic game from the past is released on Wii Virtual Console. Launched in 1990 on the SEGA Mega Drive and set in the year 2048, Strider is lauded as a classic its era. You take control of the legendary Strider, Hiryu, and by using his trusty plasma sword called “Cypher” and athletic platforming abilities you must travel through a futuristic landscape battling the wicked Grandmaster Meio and his colourful minions. The classic action in Strider will take you back to the vintage era of Mega Drive gaming in the 1990s.

Also, there’s great fun to be had on Nintendo DSiWare this week in the premium casino game, 1st Class Poker & BlackJack, which includes the likes of Ohama, pineapple, Texas hold ’em, double flop hold ’em and many more casino classics in this thrilling game. If you are up for a challenge then get ready to battle through 40 mind-bending missions and master the Legendary Elements when Battle of the Elements arrives on the Nintendo DSi Shop & Nintendo eShop.

4.- The Pokemon Company has uploaded four minutes of glorious footage for Pokemon X Nobunaga’s Ambition which is exclusive for the Nintendo DS. Nintendo of America and Nintendo Europe have yet to announce a release date for eagerly anticipated game.
Two Tribes has revealed that in the Wii U version of Toki Tori 2 (which will probably be released soon after the launch of the system) a couple of interesting ways the game may use the controller. The first feature would be to use the camera on the system “to measure light intensity and translate that into the game”, which I believe is something similar to what Uncharted Golden Abyss does on the PlayStation Vita. A more regular feature is the idea to maybe include a “Tokidex”, which would have a listing of the creatures in the game. This would be browsable via the touchscreen.

The online multiplayer mode in Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge is known as “Shadows of the World”, which is broken into co-op and deathmatch. The deathmatch portion (“Clan Battle”) supports up to eight players and has the main objective of killing the other team, but also a sub-objective where every player must fulfil a task in the form of a “Shadow Contract”. There is a feature that ties in with this that may have you betraying your allies, so that should be interesting (or infuriating).

The co-op mode is known as “Ninja Trials”. This sounds like the Firefight feature in Halo where your goal is to survive while also performing specific tasks that will earn Karma. This will increase your ninja’s level and, “as you gain levels, you’re able to perform more actions.” It’s possible to play this mode by yourself.

There are new screenshots and artwork from Rune Factory 4.

The second animated short for Kid Icarus: Uprising is now available via Nintendo Video on the 3DS. There’s also a recorded version after the break. Make sure you watch the first before the second.
