Earlier this week I posted a screenshot of a pre-order box for Donkey Kong 3D, which was taken in an EB store by a member of DKVine. US games store GameStop, who owns EB Games in Australia, has stated that the display cases for Donkey Kong 3D were not official, and that the game isn’t on the stores computers. Nintendo has refused to confirm or deny the existence of Donkey Kong 3D.

“The displays were not supplied by Nintendo and have been taken down. It’s definitely not in the system in the U.S. I’m sure it’s not elsewhere, either, but I can’t confirm that.”

2.- Super Mario Galaxy 2 director Koichi Hayashida has told Game Trailers that the team would have liked Donkey Kong and Pikmin to star in Super Mario Galaxy 2, but Shigeru Miyamoto wasn’t too keen on the idea.
Keiji Inafune, the acclaimed creator behind Mega Man, has expressed his interest in developing a brand new game for Wii U. Inafune admitted that while he hasn’t yet received a Wii U development kit, he would absolutely love to have the opportunity to make a game for the forthcoming platform.
“I can’t comment too much about it because I haven’t touched it yet, but whenever Nintendo comes out with something new, it’s always good. So I’m confident it must be impressive. If I get a chance, I always want to try out creating for a new platform. So I’m looking forward to that chance.”

“One of the early proposals that we discussed for Super Mario Galaxy 2 was the possibility of including characters from other [Nintendo] franchises. For example, you might have Donkey Kong or Pikmin show up.”
“We presented this to Mr. Miyamoto, but he came down pretty hard, saying that there has to be a functional reason to include characters of a certain type in a game. He went to specify precisely why the Pikmin wouldn’t work.
“In the Pikmin games, you’ll notice that all the Pikmin are very thin – tall and narrow for their frame. Mario enemies tend to be on the short and squat side and there’s a functional reason for that. They’re easier to stomp on. They’re lower so you can get above them and broader so you can land on them. In that sense, Pikmin are just not well suited for the Mario universe.”

3.- Mike Roush of Gaijin Games – the makers of the BIT.TRIP series – was asked about what games he was looking forward to and, in response, he said:
And while I don’t think it’s much of a revelation to believe that Gaijin Games will be working on something for the Wii U, it’s always nice to hear enthusiasm on top of that expectation.
I am REALLY looking forward to any Nintendo release on the Wii U. I really hope they launch with a Mario title.
And while I don’t think it’s much of a revelation to believe that Gaijin Games will be working on something for the Wii U, it’s always nice to hear enthusiasm on top of that expectation.
We heard a rumour about a game known as Sonic Dimensions coming to the Wii U. It sounded all kinds of amazing, but now, when asked about the rumour, Takashi Iizuka of SEGA responded with:
Sonic Dimensions? [Laughs] I think it’s a complete hoax. [Laughs]
And while I’m all for conspiracy theories, when the producer for a game development company straight-up says something is fake, it usually is fake. The inverse of that is, if they say one rumour is fake, then respond to other rumours with “no comment” you can be fairly sure there’s truth. In this particular case though, it does seem like the rumour was a hoax.

4.- Mike Gwilliam of Forget the Box, who in the past has shared not-yet-confirmed-but-still-plausible rumors, has a new round of possibilities for us to sink our teeth into, the first of which begin with E3.
Supposedly, Nintendo already knows the titles they plan to show for the system at E3. They have ten or eleven of their own titles they want to display, with the rest of the titles being from third-parties. A total of seventy titles are in development and Nintendo wants to publish four of their games before year’s end. It remains a rumour, though, so don’t re-align your expectations entirely.
“Nintendo is considering keeping the price of the Wii U lower than they want to,” according to the source, but the losses they’ll sustain will be softened because of the volume of titles for the 3DS and Wii U they’ll release during the holiday season. And with the mistake of pricing the 3DS too high, this feels perfectly plausible.
There are also apparently “at least three new franchises in development” by various Nintendo-owned studios, which is happening because they have “always been under criticism for recycling their existing franchises over and over again, and it seems that Nintendo may have taken some of that criticism to heart”. And if that’s the case, then that’s amazing. We have to wait until E3 before we know for sure though.
