Information Update - Nintendo 3DS


1.- Warren Spector, the critically acclaimed creator of Deus Ex and Epic Mickey, has toldGames Industry International that video game consoles ‘won’t go away’. Spector who has been awarded the lifetime achievement award at this years Game Developer Choice Awards, is firmly confident that consoles are here to stay.

“I think it’s going to become more – god I said I would never get into the business of prediction, but here I go – I think what you’re going to see is an increasing sort of stratification, where you see fewer, much higher end games that continue to do exceptionally well on the console.”

We heard yesterday that Ubisoft had decided to delay Rayman Origins 3D till June in Europe, well now it appears that the company has decided to push Rayman Origins 3D back to June worldwide. Ubisoft wouldn’t reveal exactly why they’ve decided to delay the Nintendo 3DS version, even though the game is readily available to purchase on other formats.

 

Masahiro Sakurai, the creative force behind both the Kirby and the Super Smash Bros series, has revealed the five composers behind the Kid Icarus: Uprising soundtrack. Here are the five composers, along with the games that they’ve previously provided soundtracks for:

• Motoi Sakuraba: Tales of, Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile, Baten Kaitos, Dark Souls, Golden Sun
• Yuzo Koshiro: Streets of Rage, ActRaiser, Shinobi, Etrian Odyssey
• Masafumi Takada: Killer7, No More Heroes, God Hand
• Noriyuki Iwadare: Lunar, Grandia, Radiata Stories
• Yasunori Mitsuda: Chrono Trigger/Cross, Xenogears, Shadow Hearts

2.- Codemasters has announced that it’s secured a multi-year deal F1 deal, and that the development studio is busy developing F1 2012 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Codemasters has neglected to mention whether there’s a F1 game in the works for Wii U, but that might be because the game is coming out in September, and the Wii U isn’t expected to launch until the end of the year. Hopefully we should hear something at E3 in June.

 

The next episode of GameTrailers will feature a ‘blowout of rather large proportions’ according to the blurb for the forthcoming episode which airs March 22nd. The show will have an exclusive trailer for Warren Spector’s next game, which is presumably Epic Mickey 2 for Wii and Wii U. Here’s what the site has to say about the next episode:

“GTTV will have the world exclusive reveal trailer and first gameplay anywhere of Warren Spector’s next yet-to-be-announced game. It’s going to be …notably significant.”

Japanese publication Inside Games is reporting that several Sonic titles are being pulled from the Japanese Wii Virtual Console. The games that are being withdrawn from the service include Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic & Knuckles as well as the Master System version of Sonic the Hedgehog. All these games will be removed from the Japanese Virtual Console this month. Clearly this is rather worrying.

Yesterday Activision revealed that the Transformers Prime games are coming exclusively to Nintendo formats this year, now they’ve unleashed the first teaser trailer for the game. The games will be based on the Transformers Prime animated series and are due to arrive on Wii, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS sometime later this year.

 

Nintendo UK has issued a press release to remind everyone that ahead of the launch ofKid Icarus: Uprising on Friday 23rd March, Nintendo 3DS owners now have exclusive access to the first part in a series of Kid Icarus Anime clips, entitled ‘Thanatos Rising’. It is available now via Nintendo Video and features the angel Pit and his battle against one of Medusa’s minions – all in glorious 3D.

The game will launch with 6 Kid Icarus AR Cards included, but there are more to collect to boost your collection. Each card represents a character, an enemy, a weapon or a location of the game. When the player puts a card in front of the outer cameras of Nintendo 3DS, the 3D model representing that card will pop out of the card and on the screen. When two cards are facing against each other, the player can make the 3D models fight. The exclusive Kid Icarus AR Cards will also be available through Club Nintendo. Nintendo has released some lovely high-resolution images of the Nintendo 3DS stand that comes bundled with all copy’s of Kid Icarus: Uprising. In Japan you’ll be able to purchase the stand separately, if you’re not thinking of purchasing Kid Icarus: Uprising. Kid Icarus: Uprising launches March 23rd in North America and Europe.

3.- The recent episode of GameTrailers 2 has a segment dedicated to Darksiders 2.

There have been multiple, strong suggestions that Epic Mickey 2 will be announced before the end of the month, and there is reason to believe it will be coming to the Wii U. And, if that wasn’t enough, GameTrailers ispromoting their next episode of GameTrailers TV as a “blowout of rather large proportions”, the last part of that title being too synonymous with the word “epic” to ignore. Then, the full episode description states:

 

…will have the world exclusive reveal trailer and first gameplay anywhere of Warren Spector’s next yet-to-be-announced game. It’s going to be …notably significant.

And those last two words – “notably significant” – seem to make it clear: Epic Mickey 2 will be unveiled next week. As for whether it is on the Wii U though, we’ll have to wait and see.
