Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- To celebrate the Nintendo 3DS’ first birthday Nintendo is sending out Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime in Mii form to 3DS owners via SpotPass. Nintendo Europe recently send out a Satoru Iwata Mii character earlier this week to celebrate the systems first birthday in Europe. Reggie and Iwata can help you get the elusive pink puzzle pieces in Puzzle Swap, so be sure to get them via Mii Plaza.

More After the Break...

Ubisoft’s digital manager Chris Early has told Eurogamer that the company is more than prepared to take full advantage of the Wii U by offering unparalleled digital content on the platform. Ubisoft previously took advantage of the PlayStation Vita’s digital offerings by providing digital copies of the company’s launch software. Here’s what Early had to say about their plans for Wii U:

“We’ll absolutely take advantage of whatever the policies will let us do with the platform from the standpoint of providing digital content.”
“Nintendo has not announced a lot of their digital programs at this point of time. Our key is, as you see from us from a content perspective in supporting the platform, is we’re going to be there like we were with the Vita, and support the policy side of it as well. With the Vita all of our games are available digitally, and they’re even optimised from that standpoint because that was a policy in place we were able to design to.”
“So from the same standpoint, I expect when the Wii U comes out and there are digital policies that are there, we will be in support of them as well.”
The latest edition of Nintendo Power has revealed that Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion is a follow-up to the critically acclaimed Mega Drive game Castle of Illusion. Epic Mickey 3DS is a side scrolling plat former which is being developed by Dreamrift. Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion features hand drawn sprites and scrolling parallax backgrounds to make it feel like an old-skool 16 bit game. The game should be out later this year.

2.- Toys “R” Us in the United States is selling the fantastic The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the bargain price of $29.99. It’s generally quite rare to see first party Nintendo games at a reduced price, especially since the game didn’t launch so long ago. The Legend of Zelda: skyward Sword is one of the best games on Wii so if you haven’t already purchased it nows your chance.

Disney has revealed the official European Wii box-art for Epic Mickey: The Power of Two. Epic Mickey 2 is due for release sometime later this year in North America and Europe, but developer Warren Spector wouldn’t be drawn on revealing an exact date for the game. We should hear plenty more about the game at this years E3 event which takes place in June.

Nintendo Power magazine has revealed that Epic Mickey 2: Power of Illusion, which was announced few days ago for the 3DS, is a 2D platformer that features hand-drawn sprites and scrolling backgrounds, and follows on from Castle of Illusion on the SEGA Genesis. Within the game, you move from level to level (each of which is based on a different Disney franchise), while using the stylus to draw things into existence such as cannons, cliffs, and platforms. The more precisely you draw the items, the more beneficial they will be.

Nintendo in Australia has confirmed that Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure will launch in Australia on April 12th.

Nintendo of Europe has announced that they’ll soon be hosting a 3D photo contest in which you try and take the best photo you can based on categories that Nintendo has chosen, including:
  • Animals
  • People
  • Places
  • Objects
  • Plants
  • Augmented Reality

The contest will begin during the first week of April and will last for three months. The contest website won’t be fully opened until the contest begins, but you can click here to check it out in the mean time.

Square Enix has explained that the next demo for Bravely Default: Flying Fairy, which centers around the game’s main character, is more interactive this time around. While there will be an augmented reality movie, you’ll also be able to walk around the in-game world, talk to NPCs, and visit a shop. It was also shared that the game’s main character, Tiz Oria (pictured above) is a young boy who survived a great catastrophe, and he’s tasked with trying to stop the world’s coming destruction. The demo will be on the eShop in Japan on March 28th, and there are screenshots after the break.

Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that the GameGear games which were released in North America will be making their way to the eShop in Europe on Thursday. Given that Australia and Europe both have the same release schedule, it’s likely they’ll also be released in Australia this week.
