Funcom developer Joel Bylos has told the official Nintendo magazine that he thinks that the Wii U will be the perfect home console for MMORPG’s due to the consoles innovative touch screen. Bylos believes that the Wii U could be the first console to run a massively multiplayer online role playing game without any compromise.

“Wii U could be the first real console on which running an MMORPG without compromise is plausible. The controller is perfect for lining up those rows of hotbars that are essential in most MMOs. A customisable touchscreen interface combined with the 3D spatial movement of a console controller could be a winner.”
2.- Developers have told Games Industry International that development costs for next generation consoles such as the Wii U have risen sharply. The developer states that development costs for Wii U are much higher than Wii titles due to the increased resolution and polygon count. The developer also states that development time takes longer due to the advanced hardware, and creating innovative ideas for the Wii U’s unique tablet controller.
Ubisoft has told GamaSutra that the company plans to be the number one third party developer on Wii U when the system launches later this year. Ubisoft already has five titles planned for Wii U including Assassins Creed 3, Ghost Recon Online and a brand new Rabbids title.
“We have big plans for Wii U. Our intention is to be the number one third party on Wii U, just like we were on Kinect and 3DS.”
“We’ve always had a really close relationship with Nintendo so I’d ventur eto say that we did have an advantage in getting dev kits earlier than other people. I’m not saying we got them earlier than everyone, but I do think we got them early.”
- SVP of sales and marketing Tony Key.
Nintendo has told Game Informer’s Jim Reilly that the company doesn’t comment on rumour or speculation when they were quizzed about the rumoured Wii U release date leak. Kotaku has already questioned the validity of the rumour stating that the original source’s track record was unreliable.
The Wii U will apparently launch on Sunday 18th November in North America according toa leaked internal email from a large Japanese retailer. The Wii U will launch in Japan a week later, but the email neglected to mention a European release date. As always this is a rumour so we obviously won’t hear anything official until E3 in June.
3.- The same unnamed developers who told Games Industry International that the Wii U is less powerful than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 has revealed that you can only use one Wii U controller per console. It’s always been a little up the air how many tablet controllers the Wii U supports, but it seems as though it’s pretty much official that you will only be able to use one per console. We should know for sure at E3.
Developers who have spoken under the condition of anonymity have told Games Industry International that the Wii U is actually less powerful than the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. This will come as shocking news to many as developers have previously said the console was slightly more powerful than both current gen consoles.
4.- Nintendo has revealed their line-up for PAX East in Boston. Those who visit Nintendo’s booth can play Mario Tennis Open, Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir, and Ketzal’s Corridors, an eShop game. There will also be a multiplayer tournament for Kid Icarus: Uprising multiplayer tournament, along with augmented reality cards to collect. You can read all the details in a press release after the break.
Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure launches this week in Europe and SEGA has released the launch trailer for the game.
“The whole thing about the tablet controller is that you only get one of them, and you can only use one and it’s not completely independent,” noted the source. “The base console has to be on, and you have to be in range.” Queried about other controllers, the source was clear: “Other controllers are just Wiimotes, or other Wii controllers. They may change the form factor or looks a bit, but it’s the same controller.”

“No, it’s not up to the same level as the PS3 or the 360.,” said one developer who’s been working with the Wii U. What does that mean? “The graphics are just not as powerful,”
“Yeah, that’s true. It doesn’t produce graphics as well as the PS3 or the 360. There aren’t as many shaders, it’s not as capable. Sure, some things are better, mostly as a result of it being a more modern design. But overall the Wii U just can’t quite keep up.” Said another source.
