Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Warren Spector, the creator behind Epic Mickey, originally planned for the franchise to be a four game series. Spector had at least three new cycles of “innovation” to introduce to Epic Mickey, the latest of which is the co-op aspect of the forthcoming Epic Mickey: The Power of Two. Spector also said that he could not accuse players of misunderstanding the original Epic Mickey on Wii because “the gamer is always right.”

“People got it just fine, but to be honest, nobody is going to say ‘No, I don’t want everybody to love my game. Of course you want people to love your game, but if you can’t have that I would much rather polarize people and have people love it or hate it, than feel it was just alright.”

Konami has teased that the rumoured Castlevania: Lords of Shadow sequel is in the works. The developers posted a Castlevania inspired image on their new teaser website, prompting many to assume that it’s related to the Castlevania franchise. You may remember earlier this week that the Paul Gale Network revealed that the game is in development for Wii U and will be shown off at E3 in a couple of weeks.

Nintendo fans will have an exclusive opportunity to get hands-on with some top Nintendo titles as the Unleashed tour returns to MCM Expo London Comic Con May 25th – 27th. Britain’s biggest pop culture festival will see the much anticipated UK debut of RPGKingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance on Nintendo 3DS and quirky rhythm-based game Wii game Beat the Beat: Rhythm Paradise.

Other games on show at the Nintendo Unleashed stand include Mario Tennis Open and action-packed multiplayer adventure Heroes of Ruin for Nintendo 3DS, as well as survival horror sequel Project Zero 2: Wii Edition. In addition, Nintendo will be hosting a swap shop and battle table for the exclusive Kid Icarus: Uprising collectible AR cards, which visitors will also be able to win at MCM Expo London Comic Con.

The NPD group which tracks video game sales throughout the United States has announced that its reports will include sales figures from Walmart starting from next month. NPD Group’s David Reiley also mentioned that next months report will also include another prolific retailer in the United States which hadn’t previously been included.

Double Fine Production has officially announced their new game which is titled The Cave. News of Ron Gilbert’s next spectacular 2D adventure franchise leaked earlier this week when it was revealed that Sega is publishing the game. The Cave is described by Kotaku as a mix between Manic Mansion with a little Metroidvania thrown in for good measure. It’s expected to be released sometime next year, so expect to hear plenty about the game at E3.

John Carmack, the acclaimed developer behind Doom, has mentioned on Twitter that there will still be plenty of 30fps games on next generation consoles. Many gamers presumed that the majority of games would be running at 60fps, but Carmack doesn’t think this will be the case.

Hi John, Do you think next gen we will see more 60fps games on consoles?

There will still be lots of 30hz games, which I don’t think it is a good trade. If TVs didn’t add lag, it would be more clear cut

Darksiders 2 creative manager Jeremy Greine has explained that Nintendo has put a full gag on everything Wii U related until E3. Yesterday we heard that the Wii U is about as powerful as Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but it sounds as though Vigil Games are under strict orders not to reveal anything related to the Wii U’s visual capabilities. Greine went on to say that Wii U is a next generation console and that we should keep our eyes open.

2.- US retail emporium GameStop has announced that GameStop PowerUp Rewards members will be entitled to attend the first-ever GameStop Expo 2012 in San Antonio, Texas. The GameStop website says that attendees will have the opportunity to experience the hottest new video games months before they’re released, enter to win great prizes and meet with top video game publishers and special guests. Hopefully you’ll be able to get some quality hands-on time with Wii U.

Namco Bandai’s release schedule suggests that there is a brand new Tekken title in development for the Nintendo 3DS. Tekken 3DS is listed alongside Tekken for Wii U which could mean that both titles will compliment each other in someway.
So far we know for sure that can be simultaneously connected 4 Wii Remote Plus, or at least 2 Wii U controllers (but not learned if they can be linked together, ie 4 Wii Remote Plus and 2 WiiU controllers at the same time).

Want to have a better understanding of the Wii U’s updated controller? We saw a glimpse through a leaked photo, but after the break there’s a few images (similar to the one above) that provides a direct comparison.

Vigil Games has confirmed that the graphics in Darksiders 2 will look “at least as good” as the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game. This is not surprising, of course, but it gave me an excuse to share the video after the break which features a minutes of pretty-looking gameplay. But again, this is not from the Wii U version.
