1.- The Nintendo 3DS continues to be the best-selling format in Japan selling an impressive 45,752 units. The Nintendo 3DS’ closest competitor was Sony’s PlayStation 3 which only managed to sell 12,026 units. The PlayStation Vita sales remain lacklustre as the format was outsold yet again by the PSP. Here’s the Japanese hardware and software charts.

Following the press conference, E3 attendees can visit Ubisoft’s booth #1023, located in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center to see and play the company’s latest titles. Games available at the booth will include Assassin’s Creed III, Far Cry 3, Rayman Legends, Rocksmith and many more. The finale of the ShootMania Marathon, an e-sport competition based on Ubisoft’s ShootMania: Storm also will be broadcast from the booth on at 11 a.m. PDT, June 6.

2.- Vigil Games the development studio behind Darksiders 2 has revealed that the game’s visuals are “at least as good” as the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions. The developer once again stated that they aren’t able to discuss the systems visual capabilities, but concluded that they are on par with the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
Legendary games designer Shigeru Miyamoto has won Spain’s prestigious Prince of Asturias Prize. The jury praised Miyamoto for turning video games into “a medium capable of bringing people together regardless of sex, age or social or cultural status.” ”Noted for excluding violence from his creations, Miyamoto has revolutionized the industry,” said the jury after awarding Shigeru Miyamoto the award for communications and humanities.
Rockstar has yet to put a date on the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V, but it would seem that a member of Xbox Support could be privy to insider information. The Xbox Support member informed a Twitter user that the next instalment of Grand Theft Auto will be arriving this year. We should find out when Rockstar plans to release GTA V at E3 in a couple of weeks.
The original Guild 01 has yet to be released on Nintendo 3DS but that hasn’t stopped Level 5 from announcing its sequel, which is titled Guild 02. Andriasang is reporting that Guild 02 will feature contributions from ex Capcom employee Keiji Inafune, Mini Kitchen’s Kazu Ayabe (My Summer Vacation series) and Takemaru Abiko and Kazuya Asano of Otogiriso fame.
You can pre-order Square Enix’s promising action role-playing game for a mere $30 atToys R’ Us. The game is available at a number of other retail outlets, including Amazon, for $40. Heroes of Ruin was made exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS and it was reported that N-Space managed to unlock extra power in the 3DS for multiplayer features.
3.- Sega is set to publish Ron Gilbert’s unannounced game from Double Fine Productions. The news was revealed by Segabits who successfully unravelled numerous puzzle pieces laid out by Sega. Expect Sega to announce the game and the platforms it is being developed for shortly.
The mysterious small square under the D-PAD, is not a vitality sensor, not even in a light version, not a touchpad, not a mini pulse sensor as on sports equipment, not a decorative thing, or whatever. This is the NFC sensor.
It’s then clarified that:
The demonstration of this feature in the Rayman leaked video isn’t representative of how it will work, such a use could obviously have bad consequences for the screen if people would put figurines briskly on it.
These leaks and mysteries and more are starting to pile up. E3 2012, hurry up. You’re taking too long.
The game will be a 2D experience and will have “creative ways to utilize the 3DS’ cameras”, meaning:
The forward facing camera will act as a mirror and the outward facing cameras will come into play for a new puzzle solving mechanic.
(This is the reason for the game’s “Mirror of Fate” sub-title.)
This seems like a done deal, and with only a couple of weeks until E3 2012, it shouldn’t take long before we hear more about it. Who’s excited?
