Charlie Scibetta, Senior Director of Corporate Communications at Nintendo of America has taken a slight dig at Microsoft’s forthcoming SmartGlass peripheral for the Xbox 360. Scibetta claims that Nintendo’s tablet controller is better due to it being firmly integrated with the system, rather than an additional accessory.

Futurlab, the developers behind the well-received Velocity, are developing a brand new Nintendo 3DS game according to the company’s website. There aren’t any hints related to what the developers are working on, but it wouldn’t be too surprising if the game was released on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

Nintendo of America’s Charlie Scibetta has told the NY Daily News that the company is more interested in providing gamers with an experience that’s going to leave them with a smile on their face, rather than participate in a tech race against the next Xbox and the PlayStation 4.

“If you enjoy playing the game then what the specs are under the hood, from our perspective, doesn’t matter a whole lot. We’ve never hung our hat on being the most powerful system. We do like to make the claim that our games put smiles on people’s faces, and they’re really fun and innovative.”

According to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, the Wii U will be released this yearbecause “it’s going to be important for the world.” Iwata explained that portable touchscreens, such as tablets and smartphones, are common household items that consumers use on a regular basis. Iwata believes that the Wii U GamePad, which will be bundled with the Wii U console, will be an important device for people who use electronic devices at their homes.
