Information Update // Noticias Nuevas - Nintendo 3DS

Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Planet 3DS recently sat down with Noriaki Okamura, one of the developers of Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights. According to him, the game will include sub episodes for some characters that will push the play time to an astonishing 50 hours.

The game is also said to be a “puzzle adventure that makes you use your whole head throughout the game”, which is great news for me as I was starting to feel like there would never be such a game. You can pick up Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights this summer.

2.- Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games was revealed a week or so ago, and the latest issue of Nintendo Power has a few other details to gobble up. Firstly, the 3DS version of the game has more than fifty different Olympics-themed activities to play around with, and these are playable in both single-player and multiplayer. I’m not sure if online multiplayer is on its way, but it seems like the sort of addition that might not make it. That’s just my pure, uninformed speculation though.

Each version of the game (as in the Wii and 3DS versions) will feature “unique control systems,” but there’s nothing specific that we know at the moment. I imagine that means the 3DS version will make use of the gyroscope though, and of course the touch screen controls will weave their way in there.
Lastly, there’s a new roster of “Dream Events,” which are based on real-life events from the Olympics, but are set in the Mario and Sonic universes and feature lots of crazy power-ups.
3.- Hideki Konno is focusing his time and energy on Mario Kart 3D. He’s not spilling the beans just yet, but says that Nintendo really wants to “bring a bunch of new elements into the game.” But he also says that “perhaps we’ll be able to talk in more detail at this year’s E3 event,” but with the game coming out this year I don’t have a doubt in my mind that we’ll be seeing plenty of Mario Kart 3D once E3 arrives on June 7th. Be patient!

4.- Target Shooting and the other augmented reality games for the Nintendo 3DS are brilliant. But we need more content. Luckily, there are new augmented reality games in development, but the technology is “already generating a ton of ideas within the Nintendo development teams,” so I’m curious to see if these sorts of experiences are released regularly via the eShop.
Konno also mentions that Nintendo has been “hearing ideas come from outside developers as well,” so hopefully third parties are keen enough to throw their own ideas into the mix. And we’re still waiting on an augmented reality Yu-Gi-Oh game to be announced.

5.- Legendary games designer Shigeru Miyamoto has admitted that Toon Link who has appeared in the fantastic Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Phantom Hourglass and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks ultimately hasn’t appealed to every Zelda fan out there.

“As for the [Toon] Link, I call it Link-eyed cat. I’ll admit it took courage to enter this design more cartoon. In the end if we took this decision is that the time we really wanted to make a game typical Nintendo.”
“An adventure that represents the soul of our society. So Link is a boy rather usual class, it was completely reinvented with a more streamlined look. Besides, it allowed us to create a real distinction between his adventures on home console and portable. Each has its own identity the coup and that is just fine. So yes, well I know, there are plenty of people who hate cartoon version … but there it is!”
