1.- Remember all those rumors about Nintendo being able to brick your Nintendo 3DS if you do stuff with it they don’t want you to be doing? Well yeah, that’s real. Nintendo has confirmed it.
The Free Software Foundation is launching a campaign against the Nintendo 3DS, targeting the Terms of Service that gamers have to agree with when setting up their system. Joshua Gay, the campaign’s manager contacted Nintendo and “they confirmed that in fact, they could brick a device with a firmware update.”
He went on to say:
Further, they stated that they are unsure that they could repair a device to make it so that it could run again. And, that if they did brick a device, they would void the warranty; therefore the person would have to pay for the attempt to service and repair the device — e.g., unbrick it — which they are not sure would work anyhow.
So what have we learned? Nintendo can brick your system and there’s not a whole lot you, or even they can do about it once it’s happened. How interesting. You can find more details about this campaign here, and find the source of this stories quotes here.
2.- The developers for One Piece: Unlimited Cruise recently sent something out that makes me very excited about the future of game advertisement. The guys over at Ganvarion, the developers of the One Piece game, have released some official 3D screenshots of their game. You can check them out by downloading them from this link, unzipping them, and placing the folder into the DCIM folder on the SD card you’re using for your 3DS.
3.- A press release from Capcom has revealed that Barry Burton is playable in Resident Evil: The Mercenaries. If you’re keeping count this means that there are now 8 playable characters. We won’t have to wait long to try this game out since it’ll be out soon enough.
4.- The developers of One Piece: Unlimited Cruise are blazing the trail over the gaming advertisement world. Just a day after they released their own gallery of 3D pictures the developers of Class of Heroes 3D have done the same.

5.- Continuing on from the confirmation that Nintendo can brick your 3DS if they wish to do so is the Free Software Foundation’s report attacking Nintendo’s EULA. Here’s a paragraph that has them outraged:
By accepting this Agreement or using a Nintendo 3DS System or the Nintendo 3DS Service, you also grant to Nintendo a worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive and fully sublicensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, perform and display your User Content in whole or in part and to incorporate your User Content in other works, in any form, media or technology now known or later developed, including for promotional or marketing purposes.
Sound like a bunch of mumbo jumbo? Well that’s legal stuff for you. But it means that all user created content on the 3DS is tracked and owned by Nintendo. They clarify “all user created content” as “comments, messages, images, photos, movies, information, data and other content.” So basically, every bit of data that passes through your 3DS belongs to them, according to the EULA that you’ve agreed too.
It’s the type of thing that’s terrifying at first. And I’ve got nothing against the people who want to “fight the man” and all of that. More power to ‘em. But keep in mind, Facebook does the exact same thing. They own your photos and track a helluva lot of data that is then harnessed by advertisers. Heck, even this blog has Google Analytics installed, meaning I’ve tracked the visitor patterns of millions of people.
I think it’s important to look at all this stuff from a practical perspective. What’s the real world result of Nintendo “owning” the photos I capture on my 3DS? What’s actually going to happen? It’s not like they’re scouring their database for 0.3 megapixel photos, hoping to cash in on a masterpiece.
You may not agree with draconian methods employed by companies, and it is a bit creepy. But it doesn’t change my life in any practical sense. Maybe I’m missing out on a piece of the puzzle. It just doesn’t seem like Nintendo “owning” the data stored on my 3DS will have any real impact.

Information Update - Nintendo 3DS
3.- Aquí tenéis unas cuantas pantallas de Resident Evil: The Mercenaries.
4.- Class of Heroes ha hecho lo mismo que One Piece y ha sacado fotografías en 3D para promocionar su juego.
