Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Epic Mickey producer Warren Spector has revealed that Epic Mickey: The Power of Two is coming to the Wii, as well as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and will be a musical. Spector confirmed that Jim Dooley and Mike Himelstein, the composer and lyricist who wrote the music for the upcoming animated film Dorothy of Oz, are crafting original tunes for Epic Mickey 2. Here’s what Warren Spector had to say about the game:
More After the Break...
“I’m such a geek about musicals. I love the co-op and next-gen stuff, but for me, when a character breaks into song, which they do on a regular basis in this game, it’s magic.”
“It’s drop-in, drop-out co-op. You can sit down at any time with a friend who is playing as Mickey, and you can take control of Oswald. If you’re playing as a single player, Oswald will be there every second of the game. He’s not just a multiplayer character. He’s a helper, whether you’re playing alone or with a friend or family member.”
“We’ve had a team working on the camera from literally the day we finished the first game. They’ll be working on it until the day we ship the second game. (There have been) over 1,000 specific changes made to the camera. Our goal is that you will not have to touch the manual camera controls even once to play through the main story path of this game.”
Nintendo of Japan has uploaded a new trailer for the highly anticipated Fire Emblem Awakening for the Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo Europe has already confirmed that the game is coming to the West this year, though they haven’t specified exactly when we will see it. Fire Emblem: Awakening is due for release on April 19th in Japan.

Nintendo of America has announced via a press release that it’s teaming up with some of today’s hottest musical artists to bring a flurry of 3D music video premieres to users of the Nintendo Video service for Nintendo 3DS. Starting today, Nintendo 3DS owners who have downloaded the free Nintendo Video application will begin receiving a series of premium 3D music videos automatically when connected to the Internet.
The impressive lineup includes top acts from a variety of musical genres, and features the stunning 3D video for The Shins’ “The Rifle’s Spiral” track. Directed by Emmy winner Jamie Caliri, the video is from the band’s new album, titled Port of Morrow, which is in stores now. “Sabotage” from Wale and “So Good” from B.o.B will be available on Nintendo Video today. Additional 3D music videos set to premiere soon on Nintendo Video include:
  • OK Go, “Skyscrapers”
  • Skrillex, “Breakn’ a Sweat”
  • Death Cab for Cutie, “Underneath The Sycamore”
  • I Fight Dragons, “Save World Get Girl”
2.- High street retail chain GAME has finally announced that it has filed for administration, but the company says it will continue to trade for the time being. MCV reported yesterday that GAME were going to close its GameStation stores and start a new company, but GAME told the publication that this wasn’t true. Time to use up your left-over rewards and gift cards people.

“Further to this morning’s announcement of the suspension of trading in shares of GAME Group plc, the board has concluded that its discussions with all stakeholders and other parties have not made sufficient progress in the time available to offer a realistic prospect for a solvent solution for the business.”

- GAME statement

Ubisoft producer Francois Pelland has told UK paper The Metro that it’s entirely possible that Assassins Creed 4 could take place before the events in Assassins Creed 3. Pelland says that due to the franchise being based on both lineage and DNA, the game has nothing to do with time, therefore the game could either take place before the American Revolution, or after it.
“It’s a question we’ve been getting a lot. It’s not a moving forward thing, it’s all based on lineage and on DNA and therefore it has nothing to do with time. The next game could easily go backwards as much as forward, no problem.”

Japanese publication Famitsu has reviewed Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance for the Nintendo 3DS and have awarded the game an impressive 38/40. Kingdom Hearts 3Dis scheduled to come to North America and Europe later this year.

3.- You may remember that a while back Nintendo of Japan ran a special campaign that entitled anyone who purchased two Nintendo 3DS games to be eligible to win either a Mario, Peach or Toad Nintendo 3DS console.
Well, someone has rather luckily managed to get hold of three of these glorious machines, and have rather kindly taken some high quality snapshots of the systems.

There are lots of screenshots and artwork from Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure.
