Information Update // Noticias Nuevas - Nintendo Wii U

Information Update - Nintendo Wii U

1.- Engadget has revealed many of the Wii U’s technical specifications, reporting that it does use some last-generation components, but is still more powerful than a PS3.

Also worth noting is that the console supports multi-display technology that could allow for fourstandard definition video streams. I think that means streaming content to multiple controllers is possible. But there could be other bottlenecks making it difficult. More after the Break...

2.- Katsuya Eguchi of Nintendo has said that “I can’t give you any details now, but I’m sure there will be a new Metroid release making use of the new controller, not just to control Samus and her ship but also to give the player a new source of information.”

He then elaborated, suggesting that “Maybe the player is looking at the screen but has the information that they need to defeat the enemy in their hands. You could look through the screen and scan your enemy and find where it’s weakspot is.”
…and of course a Metroid game was going to come to the Wii U at some point. But Eguchi is talking about it as if they’re working on something. Hopefully that is the case.

3.- We all knew it wouldn’t happen, and now Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has confirmed it; there will be no DVD or Blu-ray playback for Wii U. Iwata stated that there are a number of reasons why Nintendo hasn’t seen fit to include DVD or Blu-ray support with the system.

Firstly, the majority of people already have DVD players, and secondly, adding DVD or Blu-ray support would mean that Nintendo would have to pay a licensing fee. Does anyone feel dissapointed by this news?

4.- We already know that the Wii U’s controller can be used instead of a television screen, but what exactly is the range of the device, and can we use it in other rooms in the house? Thankfully Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has discussed these questions, though he noticeably opted not to reveal specifics with regards to the actual range of the device. Do you think you’ll use the controller in other rooms of the house, or will you mainly be playing the console on the big screen TV?

“We are not saying we can get away from the living room at all. What I’m saying is that we shall be less dependent on the home TV set; more specifically, the images and all the others are processed within the inside of the console of the Wii U, not in the controller. So, for example, you cannot just take away the controller and continue playing.”
But Iwata added that it would be possible to continue playing in another room in the house, provided the walls aren’t too thick!
“[It will have] a certain range. Also, it is possible for you to be in a separate room from the living room where the console of the Wii U will be located. However, dependent upon the thickness, for example, of the wall, we cannot tell if you will be able to smoothly play on that.”

Noticias Nuevas - Nintendo Wii U
