Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Sony Computer Entertainment Japan president Hiroshi Kawano has told Reuters that he doesn’t believe that the Nintendo 3DS and the PlayStation Vita will be competing directly against each other as the two products are extremely different, with different looks and a different price point.
More After the Break...

Kawano said that internally Sony does not believe that 3DS and Vita will be competing directly. The two products are extremely different, he said, with different looks and a different price point.
While he expects that there will be people who have just a Vita or people who have just a 3DS, he does not expect people buying a new portable to compare the two.

The Crown3DS is apparently the first flash cartridge capable of running 3DS software. The Crown3DS has been tested against the most recent firmware and reportedly works.

The development team are currently busy testing the cartridge with a multitude of games but there’s no firm release date for the device as of yet.

Capcom will be hosting a Resident Evil 15th Anniversary stage event tomorrow at the Tokyo Game Show and as expected the rumour mill is suggesting that Capcom will show off footage of Resident Evil 6 at the end of the event. Capcom won’t confirm anything, but it sounds more than likely that we will see a sneak peek at the next game in the series.

2.- GameSpot has shared off-screen footage of Kingdom Hearts 3D from the Tokyo Game Show.

1up reports that in Kingdom Hearts 3D, Sora and Riku have two pet companions throughout the game. One of Sora’s companion’s is described as being panda-like in nature while the other one is more small and squirrel-like. Riku’s companion’s, on the other hand, resemble a unicorn and a bat. There are also some details on the gameplay that will be in the game.

Beyond that, the gameplay is said to be like that of Birth by Sleep in that you have certain skills that need to recharge once they are used. There are also some attacks that can be performed with the companions known as Dual Links that are activated by using the Y button.

The game also has a feature known as the Holy Ropes which are nodes placed around the battlefield. If one presses the A or X button near the nodes they activate a sequence that allows them to draw a path on the touch screen that will send Sora or Riku flying through the air along the drawn path.

Tetsuya Nomura has taken to Twitter to provide gamers with details of the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance for the 3DS. Nomura has highlighted three new gameplay systems for the game which are explained below:

Free Flow Action

These are the “flashy” actions Nomura has mentioned in the past. By pressing Y, you can make your character kick off walls, swing around poles, slide down rails, and so-forth. You can string together these actions. You can also connect into other moves — pressing A or a powerful attack, or B for a jump.

Reality Shift

When you’re attacking enemies, objects and enemies will sometimes be highlighted with a cursor. Press X and A simultaneously, and you can perform special attacks through the lower screen.

Dual Link

In DDD, you fight along side demons known as “Dream Eaters.” In the TGS demo, you start off with two of these in your party. As you build up a gauge, the Dream Eater’s icon will begin to flash. Tap the icon on the lower screen, and you’ll be able to do a team attack. You can also team up with both Dream Eaters simultaneously.

The Holy Ropes attack can be used to get enemies that are otherwise out of reach.

3.- Level 5 has announced that Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney for the Nintendo 3DS will be playable at next month’s Level-5 World 2011 event.

The news that the game will finally be playable comes from Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino. Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney is scheduled for a 2012 release.

Level 5, the developers behind Professor Layton Vs Ace Attorney, has revealed just who will be providing the voices of the characters behind the eagerly awaited game. Professor Layton and Luke are voiced by their regular voice actors, Yo Oizumi and Maki Horikita. Phoenix Wright and Maya Fey will be voiced by respectively Hiroki Narimiya and Mirei Kiritani.
All we need now is a solid release date.

4.- Capcom has released new screenshots from Resident Evil: Revelations.

5.- Namco Bandai Games Europe has confirmed via the latest Tales Of The Abyss video that the highly anticipated JRPG is still scheduled to launch in Europe in 2011.

The game has unfortunately been delayed in the United States until 2012.

6.- Hiroshi Kawano of Sony has said that “at present, there is no talk of a new Monster Hunter coming to PlayStation,” which makes it sound like Monster Hunter 4 may be an exclusive title for the 3DS.

It could simply be something Capcom isn’t working on right away, but it’s still a hopeful sign.

7.- Chet Faliszek of Valve has said that “we’re about people sitting on their couches or at their desks” when asked if the developer would be interested in working with portable devices.

He also notes that “it’s just not a space our engine has been looked at or optimized for.” This means we shouldn’t expect Valve to work on anything for the 3DS, which is not that surprising. But at least we have clarity on the matter.
