Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Nintendo sold an incredible 207,000 units in Japan during the week of the price cut. This figure covers August 8th through to August 14th.
More After the Break...

Clearly there were a lot of Japanese consumers holding off purchasing the device due to its original price point. No doubt Nintendo of Japan will be busy cracking open the champagne bottles.

2.- Apparently third-party developers are unable to offer free software on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. Developers can offer software at a minimum price but are unable to give away things for free.

The limitation explains why third-party developers are unable to offer free demos similar to the ones found on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. If they wish to offer a demo then it will be priced at 200 yen ($2)

3.- Straight out of this years Gamescom event in Germany comes some exclusive new footage of the frankly stunning Resident Evil: Revelations

The game is currently scheduled for release sometime in early 2012.

4.- Mike Hayes, Sega West’s CEO, recently spoke to VG247 about a range of topics concerning Sega. Interestingly enough Hayes believes that Sony’s PlayStation Vita is going to be able to do a lot more than the Nintendo 3DS from a hardcore gamers perspective, though he confesses that they are both ‘two completely different beasts’.

Lyle Hall and Matthew Seymour at Heavy Iron Studios have told GamesIndustry.Biz that the PlayStation Vita launch will be a “car wreck”. They believe that if people weren’t prepared to pay $249 for a Nintendo 3DS then there’s absolutely no way everyday consumers would want to purchase a PlayStation Vita at $299.

5.- Folks in the UK can now pick up eShop cards at both Sainsbury’s and ASDA stores. This means that if you lack a credit card you’ll still be able to pick up goodies via the Virtual Console, 3DSWare and DSiWare.

6.- There’s plenty of people online that seem convinced Nintendo is doomed and that the best way out of their current predicament is if Apple purchased the company. It’s never going to happen.

Anyway, an artist has designed what he thinks an Apple branded Nintendo 3DS would look like. It’s not how I would expect the console to look but check it out regardless.

Information Update - Nintendo 3DS
