Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Nintendo America has just issued a press release stating that Nintendo 3DS sales are up 260 percent following the recent price reduction for the console.
More After the Break...

Nintendo sold more than 235,000 Nintendo 3DS systems in the United States in August, and the console finished as the Number 2 best-selling game system for the month, according to the NPD Group.
“Consumers are responding very positively to the new suggested retail price of $169.99 for the Nintendo 3DS,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “With Star Fox 64 3D and the new Flame Red color launching tomorrow, and Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 arriving later this year, Nintendo 3DS will offer consumers cutting-edge entertainment and tremendous value this holiday season.”

Nintendo sold more than 590,000 total hardware units in August, including more than 190,000 Wii consoles and more than 165,000 units of the Nintendo DS. Here’s some other interesting figures:
  • So far in 2011, more than 50 million units of software have been sold for Nintendo platforms.
  • In total, 540 million units of software have been sold for the Wii system and Nintendo DS family of systems combined.
Despite all the recent ‘doom and gloom’ articles regarding Nintendo many will be surprised to hear that eight of the best-selling games of August 2011 were on Nintendo consoles. Three of the games featured in the top ten; The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Just Dance and Just Dance Summer Party are exclusive to Nintendo platforms.

01. Deus Ex: Human Revolution (360, PS3, PC)** Square Enix Inc
02. NCAA Football 12 (360, PS3) Electronic Arts
03. Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, NDS, Wii, PC)** Activision Blizzard
04. Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd (NDS, Wii, PS3) Disney Interactive Studios
05. Cars 2 (NDS, Wii, 360, PS3, PC) Disney Interactive Studios
06. Just Dance Summer Party (Wii) Ubisoft
07. Just Dance 2 (Wii) Ubisoft
08. Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game (Wii, 360, NDS, PS3, 3DS, PSP, PC) Disney Interactive Studios
09. The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS) Nintendo
10. Zumba Fitness: Join the Party (Wii, 360, PS3) Majesco

2.- Ambassadors who linked their Club Nintendo account to their 3DS before downloading the NES games were eligible to receive coins on their account.

Nintendo has revealed that the surveys to obtain the Club Nintendo coins are live. Head over to the Club Nintendo website to fill out the surveys and get your coins.

3.- Capcom has updated the Resident Evil: Revelations website with a new character profile. Rachel, pictured above, is a mysterious woman who is wearing the same wet suit as Jill but her affiliation is unknown.

Rachel also seems to be aboard the same ship as Jill and her partner Parker. You can check out the official site, along with all other character profiles here.

Capcom has released a new trailer for the frankly sublime looking Resident Evil Revelations on Nintendo 3DS. The game isn’t coming out til next year but expect to hear plenty more about it at next weeks Tokyo Game Show.

4.- One of the posters over at Neogaf has decided to create what he expects the Nintendo 3DS redesign to look like.

Of course we don’t know if we’re actually going to be getting a redesign, but all signs seem to point that way.

5.- Rick Aristotle Munarriz has written a rather short-sighted article for the Daily Finance titled ‘how Nintendo will never be great again’. Here’s a few choice extracts from the article, feel free to leave your two cents.

Shares of Nintendo hit a five-year low this summer, wiping away any gains made during the Wii era and through the last couple of handheld DS introductions. Net revenue fell by more than half in Nintendo’s latest quarter, with a steep operating loss to boot.
How optimistic can anyone be for next year’s Wii U rollout when Nintendo can’t move its gadgetry even at fire-sale prices?
The funk is real, and it’s not getting better.
Consumers have moved on, even if Nintendo has yet to realize why it wasn’t given a forwarding address. Nintendo can be clueless.

6.- Chris Hoffman of Nintendo Power was one of the few people to play Mega Man Legends 3 outside of Capcom. As such, he put out the call for questions relating to the game so he could answer them, and he’s made good on his promise.

The game is still cancelled, but at least you can know what we could have had. You can click here to read the article.

7.- WayForward’s new action puzzler, Mighty Switch Force, will be playable at Game Night 6. The event will be taking place on the 17th of September in Los Angeles.
