Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Nintendo UK has announced via a press release that Nintendo Letterbox is available to download for free via the Nintendo eShop this Thursday, December 22nd.

More After the Break...

Nintendo Letter Box is a fun, simple and creative new way to stay connected with your friends via StreetPass and SpotPass. You can send them messages, 2D and 3D drawings, as well as photos and sound effects all through your Nintendo 3DS. The perfect opportunity to send your friends some Christmas greetings.

Enterbrain has confirmed that Sony’s PlayStation Vita has sold less than the Nintendo 3DS during its first two days on sale. The Nintendo 3DS managed to move 371,326 units to during its first two days whilst the PlayStation Vita only sold 321,407 units.

Nintendo of America has announced that you can now place your pre-orders for the Circle Pad Pro. The Circle Pad Pro is a GameStop exclusive in the United States but you can also pre-order it direct from Nintendo. The Circle Pad Pro launches February 7th in North America to coincide with the release of Resident Evil: Revelations.

2.- Youtube user KureKureyon has conducted a test to show how the Nintendo 3DS compares to the PlayStation Vita with regards to battery life.

The PlayStation Vita was running Uncharted: Golden Abyss while the Nintendo 3DS was running Monster Hunter Tri G. The Nintendo 3DS managed 2 hours 35 while the PlayStation Vita managed 3 hours 47.

Square Enix has confirmed that Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance will be coming to Europe and North America sometime next year. Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance is already scheduled to be released in Japan in March, so hopefully we won’t have too long to wait.

“With the tenth anniversary of the series on the horizon, the current Kingdom Hearts saga is approaching its climactic conclusion,” director Tetsuya Nomura said.
“The story of this game will serve as the opening chapter of the final conflict, and, as always, will be full of surprises.
“In order to best implement this element of surprise and discover new realms of possibility, we have chosen Nintendo 3DS as our platform. With its revolutionary new game system, this title will not only be a bold, exhilarating tale of adventure, but also a first look into the future form of the Kingdom Hearts series.”
Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii U will be playable to particular members of the press at CES 2012. Only problem is, the demos themselves will be the same as the ones at E3 2011 and no actual announcements are planned to be made. It very much sounds like this is aimed at the bigger media outlets to get some hype going for later in the year, and there probably won't be anything too interesting for us.
3.- Floorless, a most fantastic member of 3DS Forums has recorded and shared the first twenty minutes of Monster Hunter Tri G.
Square Enix has announced that Kingdom Hearts 3D will be making its way to Europe and North America in 2012. No release date was given for Australia, but I imagine it will launch around the same time there as well. There’s also a new trailer after the break.
Nintendo in Australia has revealed that Resident Evil: Revelations and the Circle Pad Pro will launch in Australia and New Zealand on the 2nd of February. Revelations and the Circle Pad Pro will retail for $69.95 and $24.95 respectively in Australia and will not be sold in a bundle. No price was given for New Zealand.

Square Enix has released a trailer for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, their rhythm-based game in the Final Fantasy universe for the 3DS.

There is a new trailer and a batch of screenshots from Beyond the Labyrinth that you can check out after the break.

Square Enix has updated the official site for Gyrozetter with lots of new content including character and robot information and new trailers. You can click here to access the official site. Just keep in mind that all the footage is from the arcade version of the game.

4.- Sony has apparently announced exactly which games will be available on launch day for PlayStation Vita owners in both North America and Europe. There’s a grand total of 23 games that will launch with Sony’s new system. Which ones are you considering purchasing?

Since the launch of the PlayStation Vita on December 17 in Japan, the system has sold 321,407 units in just its first two days of being on sale, according to Famitsu. In contrast the Nintendo 3DS sold over 400,000 units in its first two days of being on sale.

SCEE Blog Manager James Gallagher sat down for an interview with Shuhei Yoshida earlier today. Yoshida went on to give some details about the development period of the PlayStation Vita.

Full development of PS Vita hardware started in Spring, 2008 when the semiconductor was complete. The great thing is that we were there right at the beginning to express our thoughts and reactions to the hardware that was being proposed. We were there at every stage and with every prototype, and we developed game builds to prove and, sometimes, disprove how each new feature was going to make for a great game system. When Kaz Hirai took over management of SCEI he brought in the approach of fully integrating software and hardware development. Before that, we made brilliant hardware, no question of that, but our hardware team didn’t have such a good understanding of what game developers need or what features might be useful. It is thanks to this way of working that you are seeing such a great line-up, using so many of the system’s unique features; it’s because our developers have been working with them from the moment each was conceived.

Gallagher then asked about the future of the Vita software platform.

Generally we look three years ahead when we work on games. We have a fairly firm plan right up to 2013 but, because PS Vita gives us the opportunity to work on smaller titles like Escape Plan and Sound Shapes, I’m certain we will end up working on more games than we even know about at this moment. On top of the launch line-up, we have already announced LittleBigPlanet, Resistance: Burning Skies, ModNation: Road Trip, and Killzone. In the past we launched PSP and then shifted our attention to PS3 when that came on the horizon, which we now concede was a mistake. So with PS Vita we are working on this huge range titles and planning ahead for a constant supply of excellent games.
