Information Update - Nintendo 3DS
1.- The frankly gorgeous demo for Resident Evil: Revelations is now available to download via the Nintendo 3DS eShop in North America. The demo went live in Europe earlier today and is well worth a download. Resident Evil: Revelations is due to be released January 27th in Europe and February 7th in North America. Let me know what you think of the demo.
Nintendo has revealed new details about the storyline and single-player gameplay in Kid Icarus: Uprising, which will launch exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS on March 23rd in North America and sometime in March for Europe.
- Introduction: The game’s story begins with the return of the dark goddess Medusa and her Underworld Army. With the help of Palutena, goddess of light and guardian of the human race, the heroic angel Pit must combat the forces of darkness as he battles Medusa and her minions by air and by land.
- Fiend’s Cauldron: The Fiend’s Cauldron is an incredible new system that allows players to customize their play experience by adjusting the intensity level. Intensity ranges from 0.0 – 9.0 for each individual Chapter. As the intensity increases, players will be able to earn more Hearts and more powerful weapon drops from defeated enemies. Hearts also can be used to purchase new weapons. The standard intensity setting is 2.0, but players can precisely adjust it by increments of 0.1. In order to increase the intensity, players must bet by placing an increasing number of Hearts into the Fiend’s Cauldron. If the player is defeated during the Chapter, some Hearts will be lost and the intensity will be lowered.
- Weapons: A wide variety of collectible weapons offers an extraordinary amount of replay value. With nine different categories of weapons, ranging from Bows to Claws, players can learn the unique characteristics of each weapon and determine which is best suited for each battle and their style of play.
- Vehicles: During certain parts of his adventure, Pit will have access to special vehicles such as the Exo Tank. Pit can use the tank’s powerful drift ability to boost over jumps or defeat enemies with the tank’s ramming horn.
- Stand: Kid Icarus: Uprising uses a control scheme designed to fit the game’s unique blend of flight, shooting and melee combat, and offers tremendous precision and depth for dedicated players. The left hand uses the Circle Pad while the right hand uses the stylus. Every copy of the game will come with a free stand that holds the Nintendo 3DS at an angle above any flat surface, providing players with a new kind of gaming experience.
- Circle Pad Pro: Kid Icarus: Uprising is compatible with the Circle Pad Pro accessory, offering an alternate control scheme for left-handed players. With the Circle Pad Pro, players hold the stylus in their left hand and use the Circle Pad with their right hand.
2.- A source within Capcom has told games publication GamesBeat that development on Resident Evil 6 is well under way and that the game will feature both Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy as the main protagonists. The source also stated that Ada Wong will be returning but wouldn’t disclose any further information. The gameplay of Resident Evil 6 will apparently be more like Resident Evil 4 rather than the fairly disappointing Resident Evil 5 and will be a fine mix between action and horror. No platforms have been revealed.

3.- Square Enix has announced that it’s releasing a special limited edition Kingdom Hearts Nintendo 3DS which will coincide with the launch of Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance on March 29th in Japan. The limited edition console will retail for ¥6 090 and will come bundled with a copy of Kingdom Hearts 3D along with an AR card which can be used to unlock a rare Dream Eater. Square Enix has yet to announce when we’re getting Kingdom Hearts 3D here in the West but they have stated that it’s coming this year.
Jools Watsham of Renegade Kid has tweeted that Mutant Mudds will only cost $8.99 when it arrives on the eShop at some point in the near(ish) future. An exact release date is unknown though. The game is a retro 2D puzzle platformer with the ability to send the main character between the foreground and background.
You can click here to see a couple of trailers for the game.
4.- Nintendo of America has revealed there is a feature in Kid Icarus: Uprising known as ‘Fiend’s Cauldron’ that allows you to increase the intensity of the game at the cost of hearts. Players are able to gain more hearts and more powerful weapons as the intensity increases, so there is a benefit to increasing the level. However, losing in a chapter will cause you to lose hearts and will cause the intensity level to decrease. It was also shared thatKid Icarus as a 3D Classic will be a preorder bonus through certain retailers in North America.
Darksiders 2 and Metro: Last Light are coming to the Wii U, but as revealed on a LinkedIn page, THQ has two other secret titles in development for the platform. One is an exclusive for the Wii U, while the other is a multi-platform title. Both are set to arrive in 2012.
5.- Ubisoft may be working on what sounds like a card game for the Wii U. It's not completely clear, but the main reason this sounds like a perfectly plausible rumour is that Ubisoft has never shied away from having lots of games ready for the launch of new consoles.
Ghost Recon Online Arcade.
Okay, so it's not much of a change, and it seems strange to add the extra word there on the end. Still, given that the game is coming to the Wii U (and you can click here to see footage I captured of it at E3 2011), it's nice that we have an official name to refer to it by.
