Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- More speculation and rumours about the Wii U have come from a member of the popular gaming forum Neogaf. The forum member claims that 720p appears to be the best resolution for games that use the Wii U second screen intensively, and that the controller displays games at a maximum resolution of 480p.

More After the Break...
  • 720p seems to be the sweet spot for definition with games running Wii U controller-intensive visuals
  • Wii U controller handles 480p
  • Wii U controller allows for viewing of on-TV action from another angle in some games
  • Seems that there are some third-party ports using this idea for gameplay
  • V5 dev kit is a little more powerful than V4, but doesn’t make for 1080p in these situations
  • Games can benefit from a slight visual boost over 360/PS3 and may run at a higher resolution
  • More simple titles may be able to run 1080p in conjunction with the controller
Tetsuya Nomura, the director behind the beloved Kingdom Hearts series has told Famitsu that “many truths” will be revealed about key characters in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance for the Nintendo 3DS. Nomura also claims that the game will contain one of the longest cutscenes ever seen in a Kingdom Hearts game.

“If I had to say who the key persons were, I’d say they are the silver haired boy and Axel. This time at the end of the story, there will be the longest cutscene of the whole series where the true form of Ansem and Xemnas, as well as their goals and many other truths will be revealed all at once.”
“At first, I initially wanted to develop another form of the command board from Birth by Sleep. Then I mixed the growth systems of Re:Coded and 358/2 Days and came up with a new idea that became the Ability Link feature.”

2.- Famed Wedbush Morgan industry analyst Michael Pachter has taken to his podium in the latest episode of Pach Attack to discuss Wii U pricing and online play. Pachter wouldn’t be drawn into what services Nintendo will provide, but he did state that the online service will be absolutely integral to the format success.

Nintendo “have a serious problem” if the Wii U hits retail for any more than $299, and that Nintendo Network will be “absolutely essential” if it is to stand a chance of competing.
“My guess is $299, and I think that if they do charge that then the Xbox 360 is going to instantly get cut to $249. Possibly even cheaper, and the PS3 will also be priced cheaper.“If they charge $249 they have a shot, if they charge more than $299 then I think they have a serious problem”.
“Will Nintendo improve their online service? Well, they’re starting from scratch so any online service at all is an improvement. So that one’s an obvious one to me, they have to”, he begins.
“We have migrated from the days of single player gaming to the days of multiplayer gaming. It is absolutely essential if Nintendo wants to compete with the Wii U that they improve online service. I think Nintendo is focused on it, I just think this is a new thing for them.
“It has not been important to them in the past generation, it better be important to them in the next one. I think in order to compete they have to do it, so they will do”.
