Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Yesterday a tentative floor plan for this years E3 event was posted on Map Your Show that showed some of the exhibitors that will feature at the show. One of the interesting things spotted is that LucasArts has a booth for a Wii U massively multiplayer online game. Of course this could be an error, but numerous developers have stated how great MMO’s would be on Wii U. Let’s hope it’s the real deal.

More After the Break...

Nintendo of America has updated the product page for Pokemon Conquest which is exclusive to the Nintendo DS. Pokemon Conquest is known as Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition in Japan. The game is coming to North America on June 18th, and should hopefully be coming to Europe at around the same time. Here’s what you need to know about Pokemon Conquest.

In the Pokémon Conquest game, you take on the role of a young Warlord who is linked with a Pokémon. Together with your Pokémon, you must set out to recruit Warrior allies to strengthen your growing kingdom. Along your journey, you will encounter a variety of Pokémon, as well as Warriors and Warlords inspired by the Japanese feudal era which fans of the famous Nobunaga’s Ambition series of games will recognize. The game contains nearly 200 Pokémon, including many from the Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version games, which have sold more than 4 million copies combined in the U.S.
As the battlefield unfolds in Pokémon Conquest, you must choose the correct Pokémon type to inflict maximum damage on your opponent. The turn-based skirmishes, allow you to choose different tactics for intense 6-on-6 battles, and battle conditions can change on every turn, keeping you on your toes in anticipation of what will happen next.

Features:
  • It’s a new way to play Pokémon in a land filled with Warriors and Pokémon and the ties that bind them together.
  • The main action of the game takes place on the battlefield where Pokémon fight in a turn-based, tactical battle system.
  • Be a Warlord, and control your Pokémon in battle! As a Warlord, you command other Warriors and their Pokémon in your army.
  • All Warriors have special abilities they can use to help their Pokémon in battle, but Warriors are there to command the Pokémon on the field of battle. It is their Pokémon that move, fight, attack on the field of battle.
  • Recruit Warlords and Warriors by defeating them in a unique battle system never seen in a Pokémon game. As you acquire castles, new Pokémon, Warlords, and Warriors become available as well as new ways to train them.
  • When battles are won, you take control of the new castle, recruit Warriors from that kingdom, and gain access to new Pokémon.

GAME and GameStation have announced that customers can once again use their reward cards and redeem gift vouchers at stores across the UK this weekend. Both stores had temporarily disabled reward cards and gift cards as the company entered administration. GAME and GameStation were bought out by investment firm OpCapita.

“While our loyalty scheme and gift cards were suspended by the administrator during the period of administration last week, now that the business is under new ownership they are being reinstated in full this weekend.”

“Customers will be able to use them as normal. We’re also working hard to restock our stores, and there will be a much bigger range of products for customers to choose from in the next couple of weeks.”

2.- Swedish artist Giorgio Cantù has put his exceptional talents to good use and has renderedhis impression of what Angry Birds would look like on Nintendo’s classic Game & Watch device.
Mesut from Nintendo Domination has gone beyond the call of duty and has uploaded seventy minutes of Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance footage. Square Enix finally announced yesterday that the highly anticipated game is coming to North America on July 31st. Square Enix has yet to announce a release date for Europe, but we shouldn’t have too long to wait.
Some of Nintendo’s E3 show floor booths have been revealed and one is from major haptic screen technology firm ViviTouch. Advanced haptic screen technology, to put it simply, allows you to actually feel the screen as different textures, such as the grass at a players feet, or the cold hard metal of a gun. If you remember developers have previously said that Nintendo has something special up its sleeve for Wii U that the firm has yet to announce. Could this be it?

David Gibson, an analyst from Japanese firm Macquarie Capital Securities has advisedpotential investors to avoid investing in Nintendo stock until after E3, as he claims that the “competitive position of the Wii U has deteriorated” and that there are “increasingly problematic structural problems for the company.” Here’s what Gibson claims are the three big problems facing Nintendo:
  1. Wii U GPU is less powerful than Xbox360/PS3 according to developers, which means it has no edge besides the tablet interface to attract core users. Initial third-party titles are likely to be only ports from Xbox360/PS3 titles. A bundled WiiSports/Mario title may help initial sales beat Wii launch, but Wii was severely production-constrained and the surprise factor from Wii U is less.
  2. iPad with its retina display shows where Apple is taking its 4 screen infrastructure, leaving Wii U less connected and less relevant. The GPU processing power for handsets is reaching consoles such that we think core gamers have no interest in buying into the Wii U. Apple might add in a controller to its line-up to be more attractive to core users. MocoSpace survey shows that 96% of gamers like to play their games at home, and with a better infrastructure we think iOS will be able to deliver a single game experience across four screens that Nintendo cannot.
  3. Wii U will have 1-year window to gain installed base before PS4 (Orbis) and then Xbox Durango launch in late 2013. At that point, the core gamer that Nintendo is after for the first time will have no interest in Wii U. We understand that Activision has no plans to support Wii U, which means the biggest selling title of Call of Duty will be missing; Konami is also planning minimal support.
3.- Nintendo has provided us with a brand new trailer for the forthcoming Mario Tennis Openwhich is exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS. The video shows off the game’s ‘special games’ which see you attempt various mini games that appear to be influenced by a number of Mario titles. Mario Tennis Open is due for release May 25th in Europe and May 20th in North America.
IGN recently polled its readers asking them the simple question of which Nintendo franchise they would like to see revived for the Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS. The readers didn’t hesitate and they voted in their droves for Fox McCloud and company to make a stunning new return on Nintendo platforms. Star Fox was closely followed by Earthbound, and a new entry in the Metroid franchise. Which series would you most like to see make a comeback for Wii U or Nintendo 3DS?

Stringent but fair gaming publication Edge magazine has awarded Nintendo’s forthcoming Wii JRPG Pandora’s Tower a rather average six out of ten. Sadly there’s no snippets from the review available. Pandora’s Tower is due for release in Europe on April 13th.

Nintendo has revealed more details today for the upcoming Mario Tennis Open, which launches across Europe for the Nintendo 3DS on the 25th May 2012.
The Special Games mode in Mario Tennis Open lets players hone their tennis skills while enjoying tennis games with a Mario twist. Players can check out games such as Super Mario Tennis, which puts a classic Super Mario Bros. twist on tennis drilling. As they play through familiar game levels, they can use their tennis swing to stomp Goombas, and Koopas along the way

People can play as their favourite characters from the Mushroom Kingdom or even compete as their Mii characters. They can also customise their Mii characters with Mushroom Kingdom-themed tennis gear, which not only enhances players’ appearances but also can boost their stats. The wide selection of available gear includes Bowser’s favourite racket, a Bullet Bill outfit and Peach’s tennis shoes.

In addition to a singles tennis match mode, another mode in the game lets up to four players compete online in multiplayer doubles matches. Players can also compete online for leaderboard standings in the Open Match mode.

Whether playing with other Nintendo 3DS owners in the same room or against distant competitors using a wireless broadband internet connection, players can cooperate to take on a common opponent or stay competitive and try to claim the glory for themselves. Players can opt to use intuitive touch-screen controls or increase their strategic options with traditional button controls. They can also switch seamlessly to the Nintendo 3DS system’s built-in motion controls.

4.- Square Enix has announced via a press release that Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance will be coming to North America on July 31st. The company also announced thatTheatrhythm Final Fantasy will be arriving in North America on July 3rd.

Alex Hutchinson, the creative director of Assassins Creed 3, has told the official Xbox magazine that fans online are suggesting some of the worst settings for Assassins Creedpossible. The settings that are suggested the most are World War 2, Japan and Egypt. Hutchinson isn’t a fan of any of these but suggests that India could be a good setting.
“People on the internet suggest the most boring settings,” Hutchinson mused when we asked him whether he’d considered certain hotly demanded alternatives. “The three most wanted are WWII, feudal Japan and Egypt. They’re kind of the three worst settings for an AC game.”

Hutchinson has time for India, at least. “[Assassin's Creed 3 writer Corey May] really wants to do India, ” he told us, less the square brackets. “I would too. I’d really love to do the Raj.”

Disney Interactive has uploaded ten minutes of wonderful Epic Mickey: The Power of Twogameplay footage. The footage itself comes direct from the Wii version which has beenconfirmed as the lead platform for the game. Epic Mickey 2 is due to be released on September 28th for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii.
