Information Update - Nintendo 3DS
1.- Due to the below expected performance of games such as Star Wars: The Old Republic and Battlefield 3, EA is apparently looking to layoff roughly 500-1000 people as early as this week. EA has denied the claim stating that ”EA is growing and hiring – building teams to support the growing demand for digital games and services.”

More After the Break...
Whilst Nintendo firmly squashed those Miyamoto retirement rumours that infiltrated the web last year, the man himself has told El Mundo that Nintendo must prepare themselves for his eventual retirement. Miyamoto told the publication that he’s currently in the process of giving the talented individuals who work under him much more responsibilities.
“We all get older. I’m already about to turn 60,”
“In recent years I’ve been telling people within Nintendo [that] I’ll have to retire at some point. We must be prepared. That’s why I given more responsibility to younger colleagues.”
It’s no surprise that Shigeru Miyamoto is dissatisfied with the reception Wii Music received but what is surprising is his determination to make another game in the series. Miyamoto told Spanish newspaper El Mundo that he wants to take some of the ideas that worked in the original Wii music on Wii and put them to good use on Wii U.
“It is always sad that something is not sold as well as expected. I think these negative experiences on a project is a thorn that is stuck, so we usually try to work the best idea or at least take it up and concretize it from an angle different for use in another title. ” Is that the case of Wii Music? “Yes, I want to do more with that idea,” he adds with a laugh.”
2.- Legendary games designer Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed to Spanish newspaper El Mundo that the company is planning to show off a brand new Super Mario game for the Wii U. Sadly there’s no real details, other than the game will combine the TV screen and the Wii U tablet screen, but thankfully we haven’t got too long to wait until E3 to find out.

Sales of video games in the United States have been on a steep decline over recent months. The reason? Nintendo. Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz states that Wii software sales “have been trending down 50 percent year over year, and have been for the last 12 months”. Creutz says that consumers have started shifting over to mobile phone and Facebook games which has left Nintendo, and the video game industry, reeling.
“Everybody needs to realize that the Wii software segment is trending down 50 percent year over year, and has been for the last 12 months. That is a massive decline. There’s no way you could not have a decline overall with that big of a decline in that portion of the software.”
“Ten years ago, Nintendo largely catered to kids and Nintendo fanboys. There was about a five year period they could expand their market beyond that, and now I think they’re back to the kids and Nintendo fanboys again. It’s not a bad market but it’s not a market that’s going to grow enormously.”
In an interview, Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U will be shown off at E3 2012. Considering we already saw New Super Mario Bros. Mii as a tech demo last year, I think the game will be an expansion of that but it’s not completely clear. There’s always that (slight) chance they took it in a different direction. But we’re only a month and a half from the big event, so it’s not long now.
There’s also a quick mention of Pikmin, but Miyamoto simply confirms he’s still working on it, while also saying he has a other “small but important projects for Wii U” in the works.
You can check after the break for the footage I captured of New Super Mario Bros. Mii at E3 2011.
3.- Project Cars is coming to the Wii U and, while we don’t know how the game will look on the platform, there’s plenty of shots from the PC version that you can find after the break.
