1.- Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed to Korean website Betanews that Super Mario 4 is a project that his team over at Nintendo are working on. The translation is a little rough as expected as it’s not absolutely apparent whether Super Mario 4 is the Nintendo 3DS gameNintendo confirmed it’s working on or Super Mario Wii U.

“We have Mario team in company, so we are making Super Mario 4. But only I can say is, we just announced that game. More details will be revealed later.”
- Shigeru Miyamoto
Nicalis founder Tyrone Rodriguez has nothing but good things to say about Wii U. The development team behind indie classic Cave Story has stated that although the company has yet to fully utilise the Wii U’s power, the Wii U is the most powerful system Nintendo has ever created.

Baldur’s Gate developer Trent Oster has taken to Twitter to publicly slam Nintendo. Oster went on a tirade about the Kyoto based company and ended his extreme rant by saying the Wii is toy, not a video game console. You can read his controversial opinion below:
“We don’t do Nintendo development. Our previous experience with Nintendo was enough to ensure there will not be another.”
“My problems with Nintendo are: requiring 6000 unit sales before payment, a certification process that took us 9 months and a 40mb limit. Nintendo isn’t a good platform for developers.”
“The Wii is a toy, not a console.”
2.- Analysts such as Michael Pachter generally bring doom and gloom to the table when they’re talking about Nintendo’s forthcoming Wii U console. Thankfully this isn’t the case with Ted Pollak of Jon Peddie Research, who has shrugged off Nintendo’s critics and claims that the Wii U will do just fine.
“This is a recurring theme. Technology changes and Nintendo looks like they are falling behind. Nintendo always claims their focus is on game play. However they actually have a smart technology strategy that most people don’t detect.”
“To understand this, we need to go back in time a little. The original Wii was designed for standard definition televisions, and when released, there were ninety eight standard definition TV households for every high definition TV household. Now we are faced with fantastic and powerful consoles coming from Sony and Microsoft that will drive high frame rates for 1080p resolution and much higher for 3D. However, if we look at the installed base of HD televisions globally, we may find a very large portion of them are 720p, as those displays were the first adopted and the first discounted.”
“So for many people, the new Sony and Microsoft offerings may be an overkill for their current television capability,” Pollak noted. “Combine this with Nintendo’s proven game play quality, the unique tablet controller, and NFC technology that goes hand in hand with their IP, and I think Nintendo will do just fine with Wii U.” Pollak doesn’t think it’s an automatic success for Nintendo, though. “That said, they must have a solid launch slate of titles and all online features enabled from the get-go, or they will face the same stumbling start that the 3DS experienced.”

Nintendo has revealed that the new Super Mario game for Wii U will be based on the New Super Mario Bros demo that we saw at last years E3 event. The New Super Mario Bros game for Wii U will therefore be a 2D game fashioned in a similar style to the Nintendo DS and Wii titles.
“In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new Super Mario Bros. game for the Wii U system will be shown at this year’s E3 Expo. This is based on the Mario experience that was demonstrated at last year’s E3 Expo. We’ll have more to announce about our plans for the E3 Expo at a later date.”

A Nintendo spokesperson has confirmed that the long-awaited Pikmin Wii U will be joining the recently announced Super Mario Wii U at this years E3 event in June. We’ve known about Pikmin Wii U for a while so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that we will be seeing it at E3. Still, it’s extremely exciting to know that we will finally see the game in a few months time.
“In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new Pikmin game will be shown at the E3 Expo in June. He believes that anyone who has played Pikmin games in the past will enjoy playing.”
