Nintendo president Satoru Iwata made it clear that Shigeru Miyamoto is not yet retiring but Nintendo is preparing for when he eventually retires. Details have emerged regarding a brand new home console titled Ouya. The system will retail for $99 and will run Google’s popular Android operating system. The console’s games will be entirely free to play, but supposedly they will feature in-game purchases. The console is being designed, worked on, and marketed, by an impressive array of people. One of the other intriguing aspects is the underlying hardware is ‘built to be hacked’—every customer who buys a retail box will get a dev kit in the bargain, claims the developers. We should hear more about this promising project in a few days.
The Nintendo 3DS has been selling well in Japan but Nintendo president Satoru Iwata admits that the 3DS’s momentum is weak in other regions, including the U.S. and Europe. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata claims that the reason Nintendo developed the Nintendo 3DS XL is because consumers wanted it. Miyamotyo said that while the venture has yet to earn any money for the company, it has the potential to become a core business in the future.
