Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Super Mario 3D Land director Yoshiaki Koizumi has told the Official Nintendo Magazine that the company has decided to take Super Mario 3D Land back to basics. Whilst there will be a number of familiar suits present in the game, the core gameplay will mimic older Mario titles.
More After the Break...

So would you say this new 3DS title takes a ‘back to basics’ approach?

YK: Well I guess we didn’t set out to create less storyline, less power-ups and fewer stages but some of those may well be the end result of this idea of going back to basics.

The story of Mario games is, of course, very simple. At its core, the princess has been kidnapped and you have to rescue her. What we strive to do is to find a good balance of presenting a certain amount of narrative in the game without hindering the gameplay experiences.

As for the number of levels and things like that, our main goal is to create levels that you can enjoy playing many times, and that may have an influence on the perception of how many levels there actually are in the game.

2.- Nintendo of Australia has told technology blog Gizmodo that the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador Program has been extended to September 30th.

This will give those gamers who purchased their Nintendo 3DS before August 12th plenty of time to register for the twenty free Virtual Console games. All you will need to do is download a PDF from Nintendo Australia’s website and post it along with proof of purchase.

3.- Earlier today Nintendo posted a screenshot of the ‘times up’ screen on Super Mario Bros 3 to inform gamers that the deadline had approached for the Ambassador Program.

This simply could have been Nintendo using an appropriate image, it could also be a hint that Nintendo are planning to announced Super Mario Bros 3 as one of the classic NES games to be included in the program.

4.- Nintendo has released two new commercials for the 3DS in North America that focus on the price drop, and they’re pretty good.

They take the very simple approach of saying “here are the games you can play” before pointing out the lowered price. They’re much less abstract than Nintendo’s previous efforts.

5.- Nintendo still doesn’t own wiiu.com. Thankfully the company has enough money to purchase this domain and then some, but still you would have thought they would have gained control of the URL quite some time ago.

Apparently traffic to wiiu.com was over 3,000 in June, but prior to that it received next to no traffic at all. At least Nintendo has finally filed the trademark application for Wii U in the US.

Noticias Nuevas - Nintendo 3DS
