1.- There are new pictures of the circle pad accessory which is on display at the Tokyo Game Show.
The pictures give us a very clear look at many of the different aspects of the add-on. Numerous gaming websites have gone hands-on with the recently announced second Circle Pad attachment for the Nintendo 3DS.
“It feels as big as it looks in pictures and it’s very light…
I’ve heard people compare it to the Game Gear, and I don’t think that’s accurate – it’s much more ergonomic and comfortable to hold.
“Despite feeling hollow, the attachment isn’t wobbly in the least, so it doesn’t rattle when you play with it, and the shoulder buttons are comfortable to reach and well built. Basically, it feels like one bigger unit rather than two pieces stuck together.”
- 1Up
“It is surprisingly light in the hand,” said their reporter. “I thought it would be heavier, but it’s not.”
As for the Circle Pad itself, Kotaku’s reviewer had this to say: “Using the second slide pad was easier and less awkward than I thought… The response on the pad was the same as the original 3DS slide pad.”
However, they weren’t as positive about the R button. “Where things go wrong is the R button. I felt as though I had to reach up, going from the ZR button. The left side was worse, because it doesn’t have an add on button. Rather, it uses the 3DS’s left shoulder button. So I had to reach up and back.”
- Kotaku
The Circle Pad itself is identical to the already existing Circle Pad on the left side of the 3DS. More interestingly, the attachment also adds triggers and bolsters already existing shoulder buttons, giving the entire console more of an actual controller feel.
“No doubt about it, the Slidepad is bulky and, for sure, kind of silly looking, but it also makes the portable feel more substantial in terms of control.”
2.- Square Enix has revealed that the eagerly awaited Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance is scheduled for a 2012 release and will include a cameo appearance from The World Ends With You main character Neku.
The people over at Game Rabbit have managed to take a few shots of Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance for the Nintendo 3DS.
The images were taken at this years Tokyo Game Show. A trailer for Kingdom Hearts 3D at the Tokyo Game Show has revealed that the story of the game partly revolves around Sora and Riku performing their Mark of Mastery exam in the “world buried in sleep”.
The enemies in the game are known as Dream Eaters. It’s not hard to guess what they do based on their name. Sora has a new pet companion that you can interact with using the augmented reality capabilities of the 3DS and the stylus. The trailer also showed a cutscene with Xehanort being asked by Braig if his memory had returned.
3.- Clearly the announcement that the Nintendo 3DS would be getting Monster Hunter Tri G and Monster Hunter 4 didn’t go down too well with Sony given it’s one of the biggest franchises in Japan.
Sony Computer Entertainment Japan president Hiroshi Kawano has told Reuters that there are no plans for a new Monster Hunter game on PlayStation which pretty much means that Monster Hunter 4 will be exclusive to Nintendo 3DS.
“At present, there is no talk of a new Monster Hunter coming to PlayStation.”

5.- Hideo Kojima has given us the first glimpse of the Metal Gear Solid booths at this years Tokyo Game Show.
6.- There are new screenshots from Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime 3 that give us a look at some of the different enviroments in the game.
Nintendo has announced that Mewtwo will be available for download for Pokemon Black & White via WiFi in Japan from September 26 through October 31. There isn’t too much new information about the new version of Mewtwo except that it has the “Pressure” ability. Let’s hope that Nintendo America and Nintendo Europe announce something soon.
7.- Valve, the development team behind the Half Life and Portal franchise, isn’t interested in making Nintendo 3DS games or games for any portable systems according to Valve writer Chet Faliszek.
“We’re about people sitting on their couches or at their desks.”
“We haven’t forayed into that [handheld] space,”
“It’s just not a space our engine has been looked at or optimized for.”
Rare, the acclaimed British development studio behind such franchises as Donkey Kong Country and Banjo Kazooie has told Industry Gamers that the company hasn’t ‘fallen of the map’ since they joined Microsoft back in 2002.
“We didn’t fall off the map. We might have changed and evolved. Our focus is different, but we haven’t fallen off the map.”
“Fallen off the map is interesting when you sell over three million units.”
“I like that falling off the map. It’s great success in this industry.”
“If you look at what Rare has done, whether it was Killer Instinct in the arcade or Donkey Kong Country and pushing pre-rendered graphics, they always innovate as a studio. That has stayed the same.”
“We delivered as much to the platform as any other studio. With the success of Kinect Sports and what I believe will be a successful Season Two, I think Rare lived up to its potential.”
