Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has told Japanese paper The Nikkei that the Nintendo 3DS is about to cross the three million mark, which is just ahead of the Nintendo DS.
More After the Break...

Nintendo also expects the 3DS to reach the four million mark before its one year anniversary. Iwata also told The Nikkei that Mario Kart 7 sold around 420,000 units in its first week on sale, which is around double that of the Nintendo DS version.

Recently when I was playing Mario Kart 7 I closed the Nintendo 3DS to take a break only to find that the sound had gone on my Nintendo 3DS. I thought I was the only one that this had happened to but it seems a few people have experience it. Don’t worry, the sound does come back after you reboot the console. Have any of you had the same problem?

The ever-reliable Fox News has posted an extremely informative opinion piece titled ‘the tech gear you shouldn’t buy this Christmas’. One of the key pieces of information listed is the following:

If you have a kid who’s too young for a smartphone, there’s nothing wrong with getting a Nintendo DS (starting at $100) or DS3 (the 3D model, $170).

Fox News claims that the Nintendo 3DS is for young children who’re too young to work a smartphone and claim that the device is called a ‘DS3′ rather than a Nintendo 3DS. Oh, Fox!

2.- Enterbrain and Famitsu have revealed that Super Mario 3D Land has managed to shift over half a million copies from October 31st through to November 27th which means it has outsold both The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in Japan. Here’s the full list:
  • 01. [3DS] Super Mario 3D Land (Nintendo, 11/3): 542,842
  • 02. [PSP] Hatsune Miku Project Diva Extend (Sega, 11/10): 234,627
  • 03. [PS3] Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Subtitled Version (Square Enix, 11/17): 227,219
  • 04. [WII] Zelda Skyward Sword (Nintendo, 11/23): 194,894
  • 05. [PSP] Final Fantasy Type-0 (Square Enix, 10/27): 172,756 (total 676,144)

  • 10. [PSP] Ore no Shikabane wo Koete Yuke (Sony, 11/10): 114,548
Lots of you voted and it appears as though The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword hasdefeated Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in the latest G4 Video Game Deathmatch for the best game of 2011. The next battle is between The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Assassins Creed: Revelations. Go vote!

3.- UK trade publication MCV is reporting that retail outlets throughout the United Kingdom are now beginning to sell out of Nintendo 3DS consoles following the release of Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. The Metallic Red Nintendo 3DS seems to be the most popular version, with other colours also in short supply.

Ubisoft Quebec is working on a Triple-A game for Wii U according to Ubisoft job listings. Whilst details on the game itself are fairly scarce the game is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game and Ubisoft Quebec are currently in the process of recruiting staff for the game. Any guesses as to what Ubisoft franchise it could be for?

4.- Nintendo of America spokesperson Sharon Matheny has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has as game breaking bug which currently has no fix.

“We have been made aware of the issue that results in being unable to progress in the Song of the Hero quest.”
“If the game has been saved after completing the sequence of events, it will no longer be possible to proceed through the game on that save file. The only options at that point are to either start the game over or to use an earlier save file to continue.”

So what you’re wondering now is how to avoid this game breaking bug? Well here’s what Nintendo advises you should do: avoid Golo the Goron after you obtain the Thunder Dragon’s song.

eShop would be going down for maintenance prior to the release of the firmware update, and now reports are coming in from both Europe and North America that the eShop is in fact offline. Given that the firmware update is scheduled to release sometime before the 8th of December, this could very well signify that the update is coming soon. We’ll have to wait and see what happens though.

According to this article, UK Gaming magazine GamesMaster has published the first review for Resident Evil: Revelations in the January 2012 edition. The reviewer gave it a 91%, describing the game as ““the game to convince Resi fans that the series is back to its best” and “one of the scariest games ever committed to handheld, and a spectacular return to form.” You can read the article here, but for now, we’ll have to wait for the full review next month.

5.- There is a demo for Monster Hunter Tri G at some retailers in Japan and you can check out footage of it after the break. There’s an extended demo coming to the eShop, but once again, it’s just for Japan.

Shifting World is a puzzle platformer coming to the 3DS. It has been confirmed there will be sixty levels in the game, spread across three modes: Adventure, Bonus, and Time Attack. You will also be able to make custom levels by using a level editor or through a system that generates levels by taking pictures of DataMatrix bar codes with the 3DS cameras. The game is set to launch in 2012 and you can check after the break for the first official screenshots and box art.
