Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- It’s been brought to my attention that the latest edition of the Official Nintendo Magazine has a in-depth feature titled ’A Brief History Of Retro Studios’. Towards the end of the feature they move onto what they think the studio behind the Metroid Prime games and Donkey Kong Country Returns are working on next, ending with these two sentences…
More After the Break...

“While some suggest this new project is likely to be a return to the Metroid franchise, we’d love to see another Nintendo hero get the retro stamp of excellence. After all, having rolled out the barrels for Donkey Kong, perhaps it’s time Retro pulled off a barrel roll of a different kind.”

Could the Official Nintendo Magazine be privy to something we don’t know about? We have absolutely no clue as to what Retro Studios are working on next, but what we can all guess it’s a Wii U title. What better way to launch the Wii U with a brand new Star Fox title developed by Retro Studios?

Thanks Paul T for the tip.

A retail insider has apparently tipped off online gaming publication NintendoLife that a pre-order listing for SoulCalibur V his appeared on tills at a major store in the UK. Who knows, maybe we will eventually see SoulCalibur V on Nintendo 3DS, but as usual Namco Bandai won’t confirm anything.

2.- Joshua, a reader of the blog, contacted Nintendo Europe to try to find some more information regarding the Nintendo Network. He specifically asked them whether the Nintendo Network is the same as the current Nintendo WFC, or new and upcoming for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Here’s the response he was given by the customer service team:

Thank you for your email.

Nintendo WFC (Wi-Fi Connection) and Nintendo Network are one and the same. This is not to be confused with any other network or connection as our servers are integrated to one another.
We hope this information helps you out.
Kind regards,
The Nintendo Team
Kojima Productions spokesperson, Yumi Kikuchi has proudly shown Twitter users a wholerange of Metal Gear Sold 3D related Nintendo 3DS accessories. Firstly there’s the incredibly sexy limited edition Metal Gear Solid 3D console, along with a Touch Pen and an accessory kit that contains decoration stickers and a special Metal Gear protective cover.

3.- Capcom has released the first European television trailer for the gorgeous Resident Evil: Revelations. The TV spot is roughly one minute long and is full of action packed sequences from the game. Resident Evil: Revelations is released in Europe on Friday and in North America next month on February 7th.

Nintendo has apparently confirmed that the Ice White Nintendo 3DS and the Coral Pink Nintendo 3DS consoles will be available to purchase separately from the 10th of February in the United Kingdom and I presume, Europe. The Ice White Nintendo 3DS is currently bundled with the fantastic Super Mario 3D Land and the Coral Pink Nintendo 3DS is currently available to purchase with Nintendogs + Cats.
Another day, another rumour, this time from the Paul Gale network who state that Rocksteady, the development team behind the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham City, are hard at work creating a dark open world Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game for Wii U, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Here’s a few of the details:
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Manhattan Crisis is the alleged name of the title.
  • Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo are the four playable characters, each with their own varied move set and weapon of choice (sword, bo staff, sai, and nunchucku…respectively).
  • Flashbacks are played as Master Splinter/Hamato Yoshi.
  • Shurikens, smoke bombs, grappling hooks, and climbing foot spikes.
  • Gameplay and story/stage progression similar to Batman: Arkham City.
  • Classic characters such as Bebop and Rocksteady (warthog and rhinoceros), Dr. Baxter Stockman, Shredder (Oroku Saki), and Krang act as bosses and in the case of the humans-turned-mutants, you fight them in both forms throughout the story.
  • The Turtle Van and Turtle Blimp will be present and with them and other gadgets, the Wii U build is expected to have touch screen controls for specific actions.
  • Multiplayer is unknown.
  • Graphics engine used is that of Arkham City.
  • The game is expected to be more dark than slapstick, but the turtles themselves and their interactions with the Foot Clan, bosses, and story characters like April O’Neil and Casey Jones will still have comedy attached.
  • Purportedly being in development for Wii U, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
  • Careful selection of voice actors to bring the universe to life as well as Rocksteady did with their two Batman games.
  • Manhattan Crisis shares a similar name to the 1991/1992 NES title, “The Manhattan Project”, but is very much its own title.
4.- Capcom has released three live-action trailers for Resident Evil: Revelations. They each cover a single survival lesson:

Mutant Mudds from Renegade Kid is arriving on the 3DS via the eShop on January 26th and various sites have already published their reviews, all of which are very positive.

Nintendo Everything:

…what Mudds boils down to is one of the most impressively designed 2D platformers we’ve seen in the last ten years, and a game that easily stands up to the best in the genre, including industry-standards like Mario.

Nintendo Life:

…offers up the best of both 8-bit and 16-bit worlds, all the while giving fans of the genre a classic 2D platformer. Mutant Mudds might very well be the best eShop game to date, and one no platformer fan should miss.

Nintendo World Report:

…deserves to be played by any fan of 2D platformers. Outside of the 3D effects, it doesn’t do anything too radical, but it doesn’t have to. Renegade Kid’s first 2D platformer is a sweet, sincere effort that will remind you of the great platformers of the early ‘90s.

5.- Ubisoft has confirmed that Rayman Origins has support for StreetPass, revealing that “you can share your progression, number of collectibles, time played, unlocked achievements, and avatar with others.” And it may be a small addition, but at least it shows they didn’t try to rush the game to the platform.

Two Tribes has tweeted the above message, requesting that their followers let them know if they’d like to seeEDGE, Toki Tori 1 or RUSH come to the 3DS. That doesn’t mean those games will arrive on the platform, but it’s clear they’re thinking about it. They later tweeted that “EDGE seems to win the most votes.”
