Information Update - Nintendo 3DS


1.- A developer has told online gaming publication Develop that the Wii U is twice as powerful as Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console. The developer who told the publication the news is currently working on a new title for Nintendo’s forthcoming Wii U platform.

Nintendo Europe has released the official Kid Icarus Uprising packaging. The box contains a copy of the game as expected and also a completely free stand which can be used to prop up your Nintendo 3DS to get the best experience when playing the game. Every copy of Kid Icarus: Uprising will come inside this cardboard packaging. Kid Icarus: Uprising launches March 23rd in Europe and March 23rd in North America.


This weeks Media Create Sales are in and once again the Nintendo 3DS is clearly out-performing all the competition selling an impressive 80,960 units. The Nintendo 3DS’ closest competitor is the PlayStation 3 which only managed to sell 21,155 units. Mario Kart continues to be the best-selling Nintendo 3DS game in Japan taking the number one position. Thirteen of the overall top twenty games in Japan are on Nintendo platforms.

2.- Konami has announced that the special Metal Gear Solid Nintendo 3DS accessories are heading to Europe on the 24th of February. The items include the Nintendo 3DS carrying pouch, a protective case, a special stylus and the Metal Gear Solid 3DS console skin. The accessory pack will retail for £24.99 in the United Kingdom.

IGN has learned that Microsoft is currently gearing up to release its next console in late October or early November of next year. The next Xbox will be six times more powerful than the Xbox 360 and will yield 20-percent greater performance than Nintendo’s forthcoming console, the Wii U. Who said the Wii U is going to be under-powered?

Namco Bandai has unleashed a new Tekken 3D: Prime Edition trailer which appears to be a mixture of CGI and Nintendo 3DS gameplay. Tekken 3D:Prime Edition will featurea gargantuan 41 playable characters and has local wireless and online play. Tekken 3D: Prime Edition will be released on February 14th in North America and February 17th in Europe.


3.- Nintendo Europe has confirmed today via a press release that Kid Icarus: Uprising will be coming to the UK on March 23rd. Nintendo Europe also confirmed that the snazzy standwhich comes bundled with the Japanese and North American releases of Kid Icarus will also come bundled free with all the European copy of the game. Here’s an overview of Kid Icarus: Uprising via Nintendo Europe:

• Introduction: The game’s story begins with the return of the Queen of the Underworld, Medusa, and her Underworld Army. Pit, a heroic angel, with the help of Palutena, goddess of light and guardian of the human race, must combat the forces of darkness as he battles Medusa and her minions by air and by land.
• Fiend’s Cauldron: An incredible new system that allows players to customise their play experience, the Fiend’s Cauldron lets players adjust their desired Intensity ranging from 0.0 to 9.0 for each individual Chapter. As the Intensity increases, enemies will be more aggressive, have more energy and hit harder but players will be able to earn more Hearts and more powerful weapon drops by defeating them. Hearts are also used by players to purchase new weapons. The standard Intensity is set at 2.0 but players can precisely adjust this by 0.1 increments. In order to increase the Intensity, players must bet by placing an increasing number of Hearts into the Fiend’s Cauldron. If the player is defeated during the Chapter, some Hearts will be lost and the Intensity will automatically be lowered.
• Weapons: A wide variety of collectible weapons offers an extraordinary amount of replay value. With 9 different categories of weapons, ranging from Divine Bows to Shot Claws, players can learn the unique characteristics of each weapon and determine which is best suited for each battle and their style of play.
• Vehicles: Pit will have access to special vehicles during certain parts of his adventure, such as the Exo Tank. Pit can use the tank’s powerful drift ability to defeat enemies with the tank’s ramming horn.
• Stand: Kid Icarus: Uprising uses a control scheme designed to fit the game’s unique blend of flight, shooting and melee combat, and offers tremendous precision, speed and depth that rewards dedicated players. The left hand uses the Circle Pad, while the right uses a stylus, both at the same time. Every copy of the game will come with a free stand that holds the Nintendo 3DS at an angle above any flat surface, and provides players with a new kind of gaming experience.
• Circle Pad Pro: Kid Icarus: Uprising is compatible with the Circle Pad Pro accessory, offering an alternate control scheme for left-handed players. With the Circle Pad Pro, the player holds the stylus in their left hand and uses the Circle Pad with their right hand.

Capcom’s senior vice-president, Christian Svensson has revealed that the company still have the Mega Man franchise firmly in their minds and are discussing the series future. According to Svensson the company bigwigs over at Capcom are currently working out exactly where they are going to take the Mega Man brand over the next ten years.

“I hesitate to say exactly what, because I don’t want people reading more into it than is there. Let’s just say there are top men thinking about and actively discussing where we’re going to take the brand for the next ten years and how we’re going to do it.”

4.- Nintendo has announced that Punch Out! for the NES will be coming to the eShop in Japan on the 1st of February. The game will not be a 3D Classic, but rather a straight port. This makes it the first regular NES game to be put on the eShop that Ambassadors did not get for free. No word yet on a release date for other regions.
