2.- EA has announced today via a press release that it’s releasing three new themed digital expansion packs for Battlefield 3. Powered by the Frostbite 2 engine, the next expansion packs are: Battlefield 3: Close Quarters in June, Battlefield 3: Armoured Kill in the fall, and Battlefield 3: End Game in the winter. Battlefield 3 is supposed to be coming to Wii U, so hopefully we will receive the Close Quarters, Armoured Kill and End Game expansions with the retail game.

  • Battlefield 3: Close Quarters – In Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, players are dropped into a frantic, infantry-only theatre of war. Frostbite 2 high definition destruction makes the environment come alive as everything from furniture to plaster gets shot to pieces. Players will feel the intensity of the world exploding around them as rubble and broken pieces pile up on the floor, while tight level design and vertical gameplay create a highly competitive environment. Battlefield 3: Close Quarters also introduces new weapons, assignments and unique dog tags to bring back to the base game.
  • Battlefield 3: Armored Kill – Following the tight infantry gameplay of Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, DICE will release Battlefield 3: Armored Kill that ups the ante for vehicular mayhem as only Battlefield can do. Featuring new driveable tanks, ATVs, mobile artillery and more, Battlefield 3: Armored Kill also delivers huge battlefields for an all-out vehicle assault, including the biggest map in Battlefield history.
  • Battlefield 3: End Game – The fourth expansion pack will ship in the winter but details remain tightly guarded.

Peter Molyneux, formerly of Lionhead studios, is renowned for his controversial comments. This time Molyneux has told online gaming publication Beefjackthat video game controllers are not only tedious, but they’re boring. Here’s Peter Molyneux rant for your enjoyment.

“I am just sick to death of having my hand clamped to this controller – of having to be forced to use my thumb in a certain way, and having my other hand clamped to the other side of the controller, and having games say ‘No, you will do it this way, and if you don’t do it this way then we will punish you’.”
[Typical console control inputs make him feel] “like some laboratory rat running around a maze, being forced to experience games in that way.”
“Sure enough, controllers are great, they give us exactly what we want, but that is so tedious and boring now.”

3.- It’s been confirmed that the latest edition of US gaming publication Game Informer will come with a free Kid Icarus: Uprising augmented reality card. Nintendo has previously stated that there’s going to be hundreds of Kid Icarus: Uprising AR Cards to collect before, and after, the game launches on March 23rd in North America and Europe.

MCV is reporting that there’s a number of select Nintendo 3DS titles that will receive the budget status in the UK. The first game is Boulderdash-XL 3D which will retail for £19.99 when it makes it début in June. Real Heroes: Fire Fighter 3D is due in September and will be priced at £24.99. Alien Chaos 3D, by the same developer, will launch later in the year. Ubisoft is also jumping on the budget 3DS band-wagon, and will be selling five titles priced at £24.99 each: Fantasy Petz, Funky Barn, Imagine Babies, Imagine Horsez and Monster 4×4.
“We noticed strong catalogue sales of several launch titles on 3DS once they had hit a certain price-point – these titles became the stalwarts of the chart, your Raymans and your Rabbids.”
“We thought we could spice up this space with some new, quality games that give full value in terms of gameplay longevity.
“What seems to be selling on the 3DS so far are colourful, character-led action games. This deviates from the staple puzzlers that people associate with the App Store.”

- Reef’s general manager, Will Curley

Sonic Blast and Sonic Labyrinth have both been rated by the Australian Classifications Board to appear on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console. We’ve already heard that Nintendo of America has confirmed Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble, Shinobi and Dragon Crystal for the Nintendo 3DS eShop on March 15th.

We heard earlier this week that Virtua Fighter 5′s Akira would be appearing as a playable character in Dead or Alive 5, but he may not be the only one. Team Ninja developer Yousuke Hayashi has told Famitsu that because the development team have gone to so much trouble to secure Akira in Dead or Alive 5, we should expect to see other characters from the beloved fighting franchise. Dead or Alive 5 is rumoured to be coming to Wii U.
