Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Warren Spector, the acclaimed creator behind the original Epic Mickey, will be attending a Disney France press event to show off an “epic project” on March 27th. We all know that Epic Mickey 2 is coming, but it will be good to finally have confirmation of the game. Epic Mickey 2 is another game that’s reportedly in development for the Wii U.

More After the Break...
This months Dengeki PlayStation magazine has revealed that Capcom’s Resident Evil 6will feature what the developers call a “seamless” conversation system, and dialogue that can change depending on the situation. One of the developers over at Capcom has even questioned whether the team is going overboard with the new conversation system. A Wii U version has yet to be confirmed, but given Capcom and Nintendo’s close relationship, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to think it will come to the platform.

Warren Spector, who teamed up with Disney Interactive to create Epic Mickey for Wii, isapparently hard at work developing a new game for Wii U. We already know that Junction Point and Disney Interactive are busy developing Epic Mickey 2, though no platforms have been announced for the forthcoming game. Sounds as though we will be seeing it on Wii U sometime later this year. Expect a reveal at this years E3 event in June.

2.- Nintendo of America has just issued a press release detailing what North American gamers can expect to find on the Nintendo 3DS eShop over the next couple of months.

Soon, players can experience Ketzal’s Corridors, a fast-paced, Aztec-themed action-puzzle game with brilliant 3D graphics and head-to-head multiplayer options. The game lets players race against the clock in 96 shape-matching missions and three multiplayer modes.

On March 15, Nintendo 3DS owners can download a variety of classic games as the SEGA Game Gear system makes its debut on the Nintendo eShop with Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble, Shinobi and Dragon Crystal. Coming in April,

Nintendo UK has announced that Tecmo Koei will be releasing a demo for the impressiveDead or Alive: Dimensions on the Nintendo 3DS eShop on Thursday. European Nintendo 3DS owners will also be able to download Mega Man X on the Wii Virtual Console, Kid Icarus Of Myths and Monsters on the Nintendo eShop and Fun! Fun! Minigolf TOUCH!

The official Nintendo magazine has awarded Kid Icarus Uprising an impressive 91% in its latest issue. The publication states that the game is “remarkably beautiful” and is “stunning to behold”. Kid Icarus: Uprising is due out exclusively on Nintendo 3DS on March 23rd in both North America, and Europe. Here’s a few choice extracts from the review:
“It’s stunning to behold, in fact, a visual masterpiece on 3DS that routinely surprises with impressive, expansive and detailed sprawling landscapes”.
“Rich fantasy world” which has been “teased from the abstract visuals of an 8-bit NES game”
“The single player campaign is huge, for a start, and it sits alongside two full-featured local and online multiplayer modes [offering] countless equippable weapons and powers that work across both.”
“It takes perseverance to comfortably wrap your paws around the game’s on-foot sections”, but adds that “it’s intuitive enough once mastered”
“[It feels far bigger than the console upon which it appears, it’s deeper than most home console titles and more content-packed than any other 3DS game yet released. Pit might’ve been sorry to keep us waiting, but this was a wait worth every second.”

3.- Nintendo of America has revealed via a press release that the Nintendo 3DS has managed to sell twice as many units as the Nintendo DS sold in its first year. The Nintendo 3DS has sold an impressive 4.5 million consoles since it launched in March last year in North America.

“Nintendo 3DS closes its first year with a lengthy list of accomplishments but we’re still just scratching the surface. With a massive lineup of first- and third-party games and more on the way, a budding library of entertainment options and an engaged and growing installed base, Nintendo 3DS has an incredibly bright future. We’re just getting started but this platform is built for the long haul.”

- Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime

Nintendo Gamer magazine is under the impression that Bioshock creator Ken Levine ismaking a game for Wii U. The magazine assumes it’s Bioshock Infinite, which would make a lot of sense given that the game launches on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 later this year. Levine hasn’t announced anything for Wii U, but let’s hope that he does.

EA has announced that it’s setting up a new studio in Gothenburg to create new games for next generation consoles, which will use the fantastic Frostbite 2 engine. We had our first glimpse at the Frostbite 2 engine with Battlefield 3, which was released last year. Hopefully they’re preparing something as equally stunning for Wii U, which is due out later this year.

After messing up the initial run of North American copies of Resident Evil: Revelations on the Nintendo 3DS, Capcom has now taken to misspelling the company name. Capcom, which has a string of negative press recently, now appears to be referring to themselves as CAPCPOM.

The product page for Assassin’s Creed 3 on Xbox.com has confirmed that, at least for the Xbox 360, the game will include online multiplayer, co-operative play (which is new for the franchise), and downloadable content. There’s no real reason these features can’t be included in the Wii U version, so let’s hope Ubisoft isn’t lazy when they place the game on the platform. They do have plenty of time though, and Assassin’s Creed is one of their biggest ever franchises, so I don’t think they’ll want to screw it up.

The trailer for Assassin’s Creed 3 was released yesterday and CVG hasn’t wasted any time with dissecting every detail we could possibly learn from it about the game. If you don’t care about going into the game with very little awareness of what to expect, then you can click here to read what they’ve figured out.

4.- Project Cars is a simulation racing game coming to the Wii U and there’s a new batch of screenshots you can find after the break. The screenshots are from the PC version, so they may be too ambitious for the Wii U, but the game itself sounds plenty interesting based on what we’ve heard so far, so my interest levels are high.

Nintendo Gamer is reporting that their next issue (#74) will have an exclusive look at Assassin’s Creed 3 on the Wii U, adding that they’re “the only Nintendo magazine in the world to see the game, so you won’t be able to read about it anywhere else”. As a teaser, they shared the following details about how the game works with the touchscreen controller:

The touch screen will be used for the game’s ‘Eagle Vision’ and will also display a persistent map. Fast-switching weapons will also be handled with the touch screen and there will be an interactive database to browse through. Finally, some puzzles will be implemented, which you’ll have to solve using the touch screen.

The issue itself arrives on shelves on March 23rd.

Jools Watsham of Renegade Kid has tweeted the link to a teaser website that suggests their next eShop game (following on from Mutant Mudds) will be a puzzle game called Bomb Monkey. We don’t really know anything else about it, but you can click here to see the teaser website.

Nintendo has detailed the eShop releases we can look forward to in North America, including:
Punch Out and Fun! Fun! Minigolf TOUCH! on March 8th
Dragon Crystal, Shinobi, and Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble for the GameGear on March 15
Zombie Slayer Diox on March 22nd
Arc Style Soccer!! 3D and Colors! 3D sometime during March and April
A demo for Rhythm Thief & The Emperor’s Treasure on April 19
Ketzal’s Corridors at an unspecified date

There is also the news that Europe will be getting a demo of Dead or Alive Dimensions and the Virtual Console release of Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters during this week’s eShop update. You can check after the break for trailers for some of the eShop title.

5.- As far as I’m aware, we have only seen screenshots of Colors! 3D, the 3D painting application coming to the 3DS via the eShop.

Atlus has released the first trailer for Etrian Odyssey IV.
