1.- You may remember that a couple of weeks ago financial publication Bloomberg reported that Nexon was possibly looking to purchase EA. Well, it turns out that Bloomberg has now debunked the report and says that talks between Nexon and EA were actually related to the South Korean distribution of FIFA Online 2. Interestingly after the initial rumour spread EA stock jumped by six percent.

Sumo Digital’s chief game designer Gareth Wilson believes that the unusually long hardware cycle is holding back the racing genre. Wilson thinks that in order for the genre to flourish, developers need new consoles which can provide both advanced physics and improved graphics.
“We need a new console. Racing games always do well when a new console comes out, and you do a new physics engine and improved graphics. Towards the end of a console cycle it’s always quite hard to push racing games, I think.
“If you’ve got Dirt 1, do you need Dirt 3? If you’ve got PGR3 do you need PGR4? I’m not so sure. It really relies on technology, the racing genre. Maybe more than other genres.”
Can you tell us on which platforms BG&E 2 will be released?
“We won’t make promises that we can’t keep. We are in an active creation stage and at this moment we are only focusing on the game and making it the best game that we can. That decision would just distracts us from that objective. I can say that it’s a very ambitious game and we need some tech to achieve that ambition.”
This last teaser video is very reminiscent of Mirror’s Edge. Is it an influence for your game?
“No, not at all. We had this concept even before Mirror’s Edge launched. And we have a different approach to the first person perspective that Mirror’s Edge has. Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed are closer to what we have in mind with the control of the character in a third person perspective. We use a very dynamic camera that shakes a lot during the action to add life to the camera giving the impression of an action news cover team following Jade. Maybe that could be similar to Mirror’s Edge but the game itself is very different.”
“We focus on the game. We create it first, then we’ll see what can run it “
“We don’t say 2013 because we don’t know when it will come. We’re working to create a great game and it needs more tech “
2.- We’ve heard numerous rumours since last year’s E3 that acclaimed development studio Retro Studios is working on a brand new entry to the Star Fox franchise for Wii U. Online publication Techroid has apparently heard word from a source that Retro is planning to show off the game at this years E3, but the game won’t be a launch title. Retro Studios has previously been rumoured to say that they’re working on “a project everyone wants us to do.”
Jools Watsham has revealed through Twitter that Mutant Mudds is one step closer to a release in Europe, saying that:
Materials have finally been sent off to PEGI and USK. [We] should hear back from them in about 10-ish days [and then] we get to submit to Nintendo of Europe for approval. It could take 10 days for PEGI/USK. And then take another 10 days for Nintendo to approve. Then released a week or 2 after that.
Here’s hoping that everything goes as planned Mutant Mudds launches in Europe soon.
