More After the Break...
An anonymous developer has apparently informed Wii U Daily that Nintendo is offering publishers insane incentives for them to publish their content on the Wii U eShop. The European source claims that Nintendo is actively looking to offer all Wii U retail titles as downloadable titles via the Wii U eShop.
“They’re offering insane incentives for publishers to sell retail games as downloads on the console. You’d be stupid not to take advantage of it and go retail box-only”, he said, adding “The new platform is perfect for indie devs, it’s a whole different ball game than WiiWare. They’ve learned a lot from that mess”.
When we asked what the “insane incentives” on the Wii U eShop were, he replied: “It’s just a much bigger revenue cut that you’d get selling it on any other platform at the moment, plus promotions on the online store. If they [Nintendo] pull it off and it gains traction, it’ll press the other guys [Microsoft and Sony] to give more of the revenue to the publishers. It’s very good for us who make games.”
EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau has revealed that he’s extremely enthusiastic about Microsoft’s SmartGlass. Gibeau believes that Microsoft’s Xbox tablet companion is a brilliant device and he thinks that it seriously puts pressure on Nintendo with Wii U.
“We love SmartGlass. I think it’s a killer initiative. I really like it a lot. It ties into what we’re trying to do as a company. What we’re trying to do as a developer of games is – we’re looking at multi-screen environments as being really key in what’s happening in gaming. You play games on your mobile. You play games on your PC. You play games on your console. So giving people more access points through multiple screens is a great thing.”
“It does definitely put positioning pressure on Nintendo because you don’t have to buy a new system. Most likely, you already have a smartphone and you already have a 360, so it does a really good job of positioning for the platform and we’re very excited about it.”
Ubisoft senior vice president of sales and marketing Tony Key has explained how Killer Freaks from Outer Space changed into the promising ZombiU. Key explained that Killer Freaks was more a technical showcase for Wii U, and as time went by the development team started to come up with bigger and better ideas.
