Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- IGN recently asked Nintendo to explain the differences between the upcoming Nintendo 3DS XL and the original Nintendo 3DS. Although the 3DS XL’s screens are bigger than the 3DS’s screens, Nintendo hasn’t made any changes to the 3DS XL’s displays, which “are made of the same materials as the 3DS.”

The 3DS XL’s speakers may seem different but produce the same sound quality as the 3DS’s speakers. The 3DS XL’s face buttons, D-pad, and shoulder buttons are, according to Nintendo, “slightly bigger than the 3DS buttons.”

The forthcoming Nintendo 3DS XL does not have a built-in second circle pad and, according to Famitsu, Nintendo has revealed that there will be a Circle Pad Pro for the upgraded 3DS, which will be released this year in Japan. There are no pictures of the 3DS XL’s Circle Pad Pro but expect it to look similar to the original Circle Pad Pro, only bigger.

Nintendo has already mentioned that they want to be the centre of the living room with Wii U, but Miyamoto wants the Wii U GamePad to be the most looked-at screen in your living room, even more so than the television. Do you think Nintendo can achieve this lofty goal?

“With the Wii U, a system that we’re trying to make into the center of the living room, our ultimate goal is that this might be the most looked-at screen in the house, the screen on the GamePad itself, even more so than the television. That’s our goal.”

Disney is asking fans to vote for their favourite Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion box art for the Nintendo 3DS. The Facebook page asks fans whether they would like Mickey to star with some of the other characters featured in the game, or if fans would prefer to see Mickey grace the cover alone. Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion comes out on Nintendo 3DS November 18th.

Takuya Matsumoto, the producer behind the well-received The Last Story, has revealed that Nintendo provided a huge amount of input when it came to designing the action RPG. Matsumoto says that Nintendo took the bulk of unnecessary parts found throughout the game and generally refined them.
“There were a whole lot of requests from Mario Club. In a way, what we created was fine, but it was still rough around the edges. But I think by going through Nintendo, it really took out the unnecessary parts and refined it as a game. Refinement is one of the most important aspects. The Nintendo influence was big, in a good way; at the same time it gave me confidence that if I really pushed my boundaries harder, then I can get to this level on my own.”

2.- This years Computer Entertainment Developers Conference will be headlined by none other than Smash Bros and Kirby producer Masahiro Sakurai. Sakurai will deliver a speech on game design on August 20th. CEDEC wouldn’t share the topic of his speech, but expect plenty of insight into Sakurai’s development methodology.

Nintendo UK has announced that Pokemon Conquest for the Nintendo DS will finally be making its way to Europe on July 27th. The game has been developed by Tecmo Koei Games and is available for purchase now in North America.

In Pokémon Conquest, players take on the role of a young Warlord who is linked with a Pokémon. Together, they must set out to recruit Warrior allies to strengthen their growing kingdom. Along their journey, players will encounter a variety of Pokémon, as well as Warriors and Warlords inspired by the Japanese feudal era. The game contains nearly 200 Pokémon, including many from the recent Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version games.

As the battlefield unfolds in Pokémon Conquest, players must choose the correct Pokémon type to inflict maximum damage on their opponents. In the turn-based skirmishes, players choose different tactics for intense six-on-six battles, and battle conditions can change on every turn, keeping players on their toes in anticipation of what will happen next.

The latest firmware update brings minor changes to Nintendo 3DS. According toNintendo, the update improves the convenience and stability of the system. It also adds more character options for your password that is made when you store credit card information in the Nintendo eShop.

The above image shows how the screen size of the 3DS XL compares to the screen-size of the PlayStation Vita. It should be able to provide you with a slight sense of scale.

You can check after the break for an off-screen video of the entire demo of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon from E3 2012. It clocks in at seventeen minutes.
