Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Sumo Digital’s exec producer Steve Lycett has confirmed that the characters for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will differ depending on which platform you purchase the game on. Lycett says that each platform will have specific characters that are unique to that system. Who would you like to see feature on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions?

More After the Break...

The thing is, different people think of different things when you say ‘How many characters are in the game’.

Are we talking about playable choices, drivers, vehicle forms, which platform are we talking about, what?

Me, I go with actual playable choices on the character select. Over all the different platforms, this totals up to 29 actual playable choices. But that doesn’t mean that there are 29 playable choices in all platforms (in fact no single platform has all 29). Some drop down to the low 20′s, some instead have high 20′s.

Why is this? Well some platforms have characters that are unique to that platform. I’m not going to say which, that’s part of the fun of the reveals! Some are SEGA characters, some are not. Don’t bother asking :p

Nintendo UK has uploaded the first commercial for the Nintendo 3DS XL which is due for release on Saturday in the United Kingdom. The commercial clearly emphasises just how big the screen is on the Nintendo 3DS XL, compared to the original Nintendo 3DS. Who is planning on purchasing one on Saturday, or next month when it launches in North America?

Ubisoft producer Jade Raymond thinks that current video game controllers are far too complex to be mainstream. Raymond believes that too many people shy away from video games due to the inaccessible nature of the controllers.

“I still think one of the huge barriers is the controller, and even people who played games when it used to be just one big red button and a D-pad can’t play games now. You have to master face buttons, triggers and they all do different things. So obviously we’re never going to get to that really mass-market place where we’re touching a really broad audience with our messages with controllers, so Kinect and other more natural ways to interact with games are incredibly important. I think we can go further.

“As more of a hardcore gamer I want to see that stuff integrated into hardcore games in a way that makes them better because as fun as all those games are. I don’t really play exercise games — I can’t picture myself doing that. I’d love to be able to lean and look round the corner and just integrate more natural motions. The tech for those things isn’t quite there, but I hope it will soon.”
