1.- Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing Scott Moffitt has told Industry Gamers that Nintendo were inspired by the immensely popular Nintendo DS when the company created Wii U, though Moffit also confessed that the original Wii was another huge inspiration when creating both the console and the games.
“A lot of creativity came out of the DS. I think it’s fair to say the inspiration came from a wide variety of sources. I think the DS is one. The original Wii also inspired us and inspired the developers. They always challenge themselves to come up with something that can make a game better.”Scott Moffitt from Nintendo of America has reconfirmed that Nintendo will continue to support the Wii whilst the Wii U is on store shelves. Moffitt truly believes that both consoles can co-exist and states that there’s still an audience out there that haven’t purchased a Wii.
Yes. Most definitely. We sold 4 million new Wiis last year, and we think Wii still has a lot of life left in it. There’s a lot of parts of the expanded audience that still haven’t purchased one, and with the price becoming more and more accessible we think there’s a lot of runway ahead for the Wii. You made the point yourself, at least in the Western markets, when a new piece of hardware becomes available the consumers don’t all switch on day one to the new hardware. We’re still selling DSIs and DSI XLs and 3DS has been out since March. Yes, absolutely the Wii and the Wii U will both be on the market for a period of time.
2.- The Nintendo 3DS continues to set the Japanese hardware charts on fire as the console saw a 20% increase in sales in the first full week of the new year. The Nintendo 3DS sold 240,819 units which clearly propelled it above the competition. In the same week Capcom’s Monster Hunter Tri 3G managed to cross the million mark in sales, becoming the third 3DS game to do so, and the first third-party 3DS game to do so.

3.- Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime believes that the Wii U will continuously push boundaries with what we’ve come to expect from video games consoles and will offer consumers a full range of entertainment. Let’s hope the App Store rumour is true.
“That’s where the innovation is and we believe that not only for gaming but for a full range of entertainment it’s going to continue pushing the boundaries.”
GameSpot has published the results of a reader survey which shows consumers most requested feature from next generation consoles such as the Wii U, PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox. Surprisingly the most requested feature wasn’t graphical prowess but the ability to play your old games on your next generation consoles. Thankfully Nintendo has already stated that Wii games and peripherals will be fully backwards compatible with Wii U.

4.- CRUSH3D was scheduled to launch today in North America, but SEGA has revealed that the game won’t actually be releasing until March. No reason was given for the delay and there is no word yet on whether the game will still launch on the 13th of January in Europe.
5.- Sony has apparently cut the PlayStation Vita shipment in France by a whopping 50% according to French gaming publication PlayPortable-Life. Instead of shipping 80,000 units for launch Sony will instead provide 40,000 units. 75% of PlayStation Vita units will be the WiFi model and 25% will be the 3G model.
