1.- Between September 1st and the end of the year, early adopters of the 3DS will receive twenty free games via the eShop. Half of them will be Game Boy Advance games and the others will be NES.
More After the Break...
It’s a neat offer, but there are some deficiencies with either set of games. GBA games have a bunch of missing features compared to the NES titles, while the NES titles are being labeled as the “priority delivery version” because they will lack certain features until after they’re updated at a later date.
Features of the Virtual Console Game Boy Advance titles
- Manuals will be available.
- Wireless functions and peripheral devices are not supported.
- When you press the HOME Button, a simple menu is displayed, and you won’t be able to return directly to the HOME Menu.
- Neither the “Restore Point” function nor the “VC Suspend” functions are supported.
- If you’re playing a game that includes a save function, you can select Save, and your data will be saved when you’ve finished playing the Game Boy Advance game.
- During gameplay, the Nintendo 3DS system will not enter Sleep Mode even if you close it.
- SpotPass and StreetPass will not function during gameplay.
- You will be able to “Transfer to another Nintendo 3DS” with the “System Transfer” function that will be provided in future system updates.
Features of the Virtual Console NES titles (priority delivery version)
A lot of people seem to be unsure whether they’ve been confirmed as a Ambassador. Thankfully Nintendo will be launching a site soon where anyone can type in the number on the back of their Nintendo 3DS to find out whether or not they will be receiving the twenty free games.
If this post on Nintendo’s official Facebook page is anything to go by, Super Mario Bros. 3 for the NES will be one of the free games available to early adopters of the 3DS as a part of the Ambassador Program.
You’ll also have to provide proof of purchase. This offer will stand until September 30th.
Phase Two involves getting as many people as possible to download Final Fantasy (NES) on the Wii Virtual Console on August 19th (to coincide with the Xenoblade Chronicles European launch date) European Wii owners can also help by purchasing the amazing Xenoblade Chronicles on August 19th.
“. . .as part of Phase Two we want to encourage everyone to make a single Virtual Console purchase on your Wii system. We specifically ask that as many as possible download “Final Fantasy (NES)” on the date of August 19, 2011 (to coincide with the Xenoblade Chronicles’ European launch date). Final Fantasy costs 500 Nintendo points and is published by Nintendo.”
5.- Nintendo of America has revealed that Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2, which is a Wii exclusive, has sold more than 5 million units in the United States. With this milestone, the Wii now has eight 5-million sellers in the U.S, twice as many as competing current-generation consoles combined.
6.- Yoshiaki Koizumi, the director behind Super Mario 3D Land, has told the Official Nintendo Magazine that he would like to remake Super Mario Sunshine for the Nintendo 3DS. Koizumi also told the publication that he would love to see the majority of Zelda games remade as well as the Super Mario Galaxy series all in glorious 3D.
“I can say that I really would like to see a lot of those games that use 3D worlds on 2D display just so I could see what they look like in 3D and see what kind of different experiences people would have playing through them on a 3D display. So in that sense I would love to see Sunshine and both Galaxy games presented in 3D, and a lot of the Zelda [games] would be interesting too.”
- An electronic manual explaining game controls will be included.
- The official version* (which will be delivered at a later date) will include a full electronic manual.
- Alternating multiplayer modes are supported in some titles, but simultaneous multiplayer modes are not.
- The official version* (which will be delivered at a later date) will also support versus play.
- Does not include the “Restore Point” function (which allows you to create and load restore points at any time while gameplay) usually included in the Virtual Console Game Boy and Game Boy Color games.
- However, it will include the “VC Suspend” function (which allows you to save the game when you suspend play by pressing the HOME Button). The official version* (which will be delivered at a later date) will support the Restore Points function.
- You will be able to “Transfer to another Nintendo 3DS” with the “System Transfer” function that will be provided in future system updates.

2.- The registration period for the Ambassador Program has been extended in Australia. The process, which still requires you to have purchased your 3DS on or before August 11th, now involves having to download and fill out a PDF from Nintendo’s site.
3.- Hideo Kojima, the director of Metal Gear Solid has tweeted pictures of the Photo Camouflage system in Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, along with a look at the touch screen controls in action.
4.- Operation Rainfall, the US group that are petitioning to get Xenoblade Chronicles, Pandora’s Tower and the Last Story released in America, have started Phase Two of their campaign.
