1.- EA Labels president Frank Gibeau has told online gaming publication CVG that the company believes that the PlayStation Vita has a better chance than the Nintendo 3DS.
Gibeau cited Sony’s combination of innovation, technology and a strong software line-up as the reason behind this.
“I don’t think they’re quite in the same boat as the 3DS… the 3DS was a really interesting piece of technology but I think there was some confusion over it and the title slate was a little different,” he said.
“I think Vita has a better chance because it has a stronger title slate at launch. PSP’s had a great run in Europe as a device, it seems to have reached a much larger audience here than it did in North America. So I think they’ve got a good shot. We’re going to publish a few games on it and see how it develops.”
2.- Natsume, the publisher behind Harvest moon, has revealed that it has purposely chosen to delay its Nintendo 3DS titles due to poor sales of the hardware.
A Natsume representative stated that the company has decided to delay Gabrielle’s Ghostly Groove and Harvest Moon: Tale of Two Towns, due to the lackluster early sales of the 3DS.
3.- 01Net is continuing its Nintendo related rumours but this time they’re stating that the Kyoto based company is effectively stealing ideas from external sources and marketing them off as their own. Pretty powerful accusations…
According to our source, Nintendo is in possession of a gigantic treasure trove unlike any other, so far largely unexploited. This unique policy of colossal investments into game prototypes and game design concepts has to be fully put to use.
The concept of Pikmin, for example, was borrowed directly from an unpublished RTS (real-time simulation game) proposed by a creators years before the game’s release. Thus, the official story (Miyamoto got the idea for Pikmin by observing animal life in his garden) is just a clever narrative, fabricated for marketing purposes. Mario Galaxy is another example. According to our source, three totally different versions/concepts had been proposed for what was then called “Mario 128”, but none of them made the cut. Nintendo then set its views on a promising prototype it had bought from an external source some time ago, added Mario and its friends, tweaked a thing or two, and… Here was Mario Galaxy!
4.- UK trade publication MCV has been told by retailers that the newly revamped Wii Unit will go on sale for roughly £79.99.
The new console will go on sale later this year in time for the holiday season but has been confirmed that it lacks Gamecube compatibility. The bundle includes Wii Sports, Wii Party as well as a Wii Remote Plus controller and Nunchuck.
5.- The story of Rhythm Phantom Thief R: Inheritance of the Emperor Napoleon, a rhythm adventure game from SEGA involves 18-year old Ralph who steals items as Phantom Thief R and returns them three days later.
Ralph’s latest target is an artifact with a symbol that may help him find his father.
6.- Konami has shared the first teaser trailer for Beyond the Labyrinth. The trailer is mostly text, but it’s also the first look at the game in motion, so it’s worth a watch.
The game will be playable at the Tokyo Game Show, so we can expect to see more of it soon.
