Information Update - Nintendo 3DS


1.- Even though you can communicate with other Nintendo 3DS systems throughout the world via Street Pass you’re unable to wirelessly share game data with a system from a different region.

The Nintendo 3DS is Region Locked even for Wireless Local Multiplayer. One of the guys over at Siliconeria tried to set up a wireless battle in Star Fox 64 3D between his American 3DS and his Japanese 3DS and the two units just would not connect with each other.


2.- The review scores from the next issue of Nintendo Power magazine have been shared online and there’s a few disappointments. These were the most notable:

• Drive Renegade 3D – 3.0
• Face Racers: Photo Finish – 4.0
• Deca Sports Extreme – 5.0
• Gabrielle’s Ghostly Groove 3D – 5.5

Beyond that though, there were some good (and great) scores:

• Frogger 3D – 6.5
• Star Fox 64 3D – 8.0
• Bit.Trip Saga – 8.0
• Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked – 9.0

3.- Tales of the Abyss, Namco’s big RPG remake for the Nintendo 3DS has been delayeduntil 2012 in North America. The highly anticipated game joins a worrying list of games currently being delayed due to below expected sales of the Nintendo 3DS. 

Looks as though those looking for a lengthy JRPG later this year will have to look elsewhere.

4.- Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that prepaid cards for the eShop are arriving in Europe today. If you’ve been waiting to buy one, head out to game store today and you be able to pick one up.

Nintendo has put out a new video on the eShop called Nintendo Show 3D. Similar to Nintendo Week on the Wii, Nintendo Show 3D features information and news about all things Nintendo 3DS. It’s in full 3D and is available now on the Nintendo eShop in North America.


5.- Activision has announced that NASCAR Unleashed is coming to the 3DS. The press release doesn’t reveal what’s special about the handheld version of the game, so it might just be a watered-down port of the console versions, but it is coming out this holiday season, so that’s something.

Mighty Switch Force is an action puzzler from WayForward and there’s the first teaser trailer for the game. It gives us the best look at how the game actually plays so far. Enjoy.

6.- Square Enix has announced that it plans to show off a new Dragon Quest game in Japan on September 5th. Most people believe the game will be Dragon Quest X which is exclusive to the Wii. 

Square Enix has yet to show off any footage from Dragon Quest X so it would be the perfect time to showcase the game to the public.

7.- A mother was left in shock after her six-year-old boy purchased a copy of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games and found pornographic drawings inside the used video game. The game was purchased at US retail chain Gamestop.

“They were extremely inappropriate. It was very sexual in nature and I was not prepared to answer the questions of what was going on in the picture.”

Traci Turner said she contacted GameStop to report the matter but the customer service representative thanked her and then hung up. Turner expected them to have more of a reaction and actually apologize, which they didn’t.

“It was kind of shocking because I expected them to have more of a reaction like I did. Like, ‘Oh my gosh, can you bring it to us. I apologize.’”
