Information Update - Nintendo 3DS

1.- Creative Assembly’s has advertised online that they’re working on a brand new Aliens title for both current-gen and next-gen consoles. The development studio is looking for a number of talented individuals to work on the game, which is rumoured to be an action title running on an all-new game engine.

“The successful applicant will be working on a AAA multi-platform title on current and future generation consoles set in the Alien universe.”

Kid Icarus: Uprising producer Masahiro Sakurai has explained that dual analogue controls in Kid Icarus: Uprising was technically impossible. While the game received generally favourable reviews across the board, one of the main things the game was criticised for was its cumbersome controls.
Considering how close to the limit we pushed the 3DS during development, it’s a miracle that we were even able to provide support for left-handed controls at the point of completion. Providing support for independent analog control was something that was technically impossible.
I do have my doubts over whether it’d be that easy to provide support. I think any game needs to provide new experiences and stimulating things to discover, but if we provided run-of-the-mill controls for it, that cuts down on the game’s potential. If a player used to touchscreen-based aiming played against someone used to right-analog control, the first player would probably dominate. The speed is on a whole different level.
If there are players who say that it makes their hand tired, that’s because you’re applying too much force. Try to relax and work on building a rhythm to your control. Place the pen in the middle of the touchscreen; when you’re flicking it, take the pen off the screen as you’re sweeping with it, and stop right there. That’s the basic idea.
Smash Bros. led to similar misunderstandings when it first came out. Some people, including within the company, commented that they couldn’t imagine a worse game. The project was really saved by the fact that people “got” how to play it after it was released. If we had just listened to the complaints and instituted health gauges or command-based special moves, I don’t think we would have invented a new style of play that way. The controls here really aren’t that difficult, either, so I’m hoping that people will be able to get used to them.

Development studio n-Space has confirmed that it has no plans to bring the forthcomingCall of Duty: Black Ops 2 to handheld platforms. The news will come as a disappointment to many as the developer has a long association with developing handheld entries within the Call of Duty franchise.

“We have no first-person shooters in development at this time,”

2.- Joe Neate, the producer behind the recently announced Sonic & All-Stars Racing has attempted to explain the similarities between the game and Nintendo’s Mario Kart 7. Neate says development for Sonic & All-Stars Racing started before Mario Kart 7 was revealed to the world.

“The key thing is that vehicles can transform, so you can not only race on land but on water and in the air too. There can be up to three surfaces per track, meaning you can have cars racing alongside boats during certain sections, for example. The second part of the transformation element is that the tracks can transform in different ways.”

“When Nintendo showed MK7 in more detail we realized it was more focused on kart customization. So you have this option to not fly as such, but what we call ‘falling with style,’ and this gliding is something we had considered during pre-production on our game. But we decided to go with full 3D flying for our game, so you’re not forced to land after a certain amount of time. Obviously you have to take the flying route, but it’s full 3D movement and it’s a proper flying model.”

Square Enix has revealed exactly what gamers will be able to get their hands on when they preorder the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance on the Nintendo 3DS. Amazon, Wal-Mart and GameStop are all offering a pack of augmented reality cards if you preorder the game. The cards can be used to unlock exclusive Dream Eaters in the game. Kingdom Hearts 3D is due for release in Europe on the 20th July and July 31st in North America.

Jools Watsham of Renegade Kid has confirmed that, in regards to Mutant Mudds, “a sequel will happen one day”. But for the time being, that’s all we know. He said he “must keep the details secret for now”, and seeing as they have a few other projects in the pipeline, it could be a while before we hear anything.
